Really hoped this would be good…. How could you possibly go wrong with a pizza and sandwich place? My husband and I have given this restaurant two tries – and both have been disappointing. The first time we had takeout pizza not long after they opened during the winter. We had the Greek pizza from their Stone L’Oven Favorites menu, a signature pizza with feta, spinach, tomatoes, and kalamatas – and to see how good a more simple pizza would be – I ordered a traditional red sauce pizza with mozzarella and mushrooms. The Greek pizza was passable, but nothing spectacular. The simple mushroom pizza was a total disappointment – they were stingy with the mushrooms. The bread pudding dessert saved the meal, but you if your goal is to have some great pizza – you can do way better at some other places (Prime Time in North Falmouth does really nice pizzas).Today we decided to go to Stone L’Oven for lunch, dining in. We both had cups of cream of broccoli soup, which was served warm – not hot. It had a nice flavor but if they’d offered some kind of bread, or croutons, with the soup it would have been much better. Our sandwiches took far too long to get to us (about 20 minutes after the soup) – and the restaurant was only about half full. My husband had the turkey melt panini, and I had the portobello & goat cheese sandwich on focaccia. They were supposed to come with potato chips but were served with pasta salad – which had no detectable flavor, unless you count the oil. The panini was burnt – and the portobello & goat cheese was a let down. The focaccia was completely cold. For a $35 dollar lunch it was just not worth it. (The server was nice, however – we knew it wasn’t his fault).
