I was glad to see crumbs back in business. With other bakeries in the area upping their game and some sweets available at the farmers market, I don’t see a huge need to frequent often. However, the cupcakes are generally tasty. My only complaint is the amount of frosting; I try to get cupcakes with ganache because there is just too much frosting on top otherwise and many of the cupcakes have frosting inside as well. Confirm with the staff about frosting on the inside, and you will be in good shape! chaosandwrinkles.com
Newest Cupcakery. The newest addition to Boston’s boisterous cupcake scene is this location of the Manhattan-based chain, Crumbs, which opened today in the Financial District. The shop is small but the selection and variety is huge, with at least 30 or 40 oversized cupcake options available, along with many other baked goods like brownies and even full sized cakes made to order. At $3.95 apiece, they aren’t exactly cheap but the cupcakes were quite tasty, with a uniquely dense and very moist cake topped generously with wildly creative and flamboyant glazes, frostings, sprinkles, etc. They also serve coffee and coffee-based drinks. I found the service to be friendly and fast, even during the opening day crush — the line was out the door by 11am!
