Another Hit From BNE. Big Night Entertainment scored another hit with us last night as we ventured in for an early dinner here at GEM. Loved the decor, a rather restrained bordello-influenced loft space with high ceilings, exposed brick and plush deep seats. The food was rather more hearty than expected — my pressed chicken was a huge portion of crispy skinned breast and thigh meat on a bed of creamy polenta and savory pan gravy. Probably enough for two people to share. Don’t miss the superb mac and cheese either! Service throughout the meal was sweet and attentive, and we loved the wine recommendation of the Rex Hill Pinot Noir, just hearty enough to complement the rich flavors in my chicken dish. The only misstep was the fries served with my partner’s steak frites were overcooked and served room temperature. We’d still go back in a heartbeat, especially to sit in the lively bar area. Perfectly balanced acoustics with lots of fabric and wood permitting easy conversation over the soft background music.
