Note:Went to the comparatively new Papagayo outlet at downtown crossing for dinner this weekend. Writing here since I can’t find the other outlet listed here. I must admit place was exactly what we were looking at. Spread over 2.5 floors with bars on ground and first floors, right kind of light and music- we just loved spending time there. We were also fascinated by some Halloween like decor on the entrance and near bar. Don’t know if they are permanent or kept only for Halloween month. Liked the fact they offer vegetarian options under all heads. Also enjoyed complimentary nachos with salsa- one of the best tasting salsa which they even refilled on our request. We ordered veg quesadila, fajita and inhouse margarita. Margarita with gold tequila and agave nector was served in interesting glass and tasted good, not the best though. Though quesadila was good and served in quantities good enough for one person, a little bit of salt would have done wonders. Accompanying sour cream was not sour at all. Fajita surprisingly was not served with Mexican rice though it mentions on menu card. Tortillas were incredibly soft and loved them. All in all average food but great experience. Would recommend to go atleast once. #hereartigoes
We had gone there for a friend’s birthday party. Had lots of tequilla shots which are very expensive. I had a strawberry jalapeno margarita which was very good. I also had a chicken fajita which was good. Overall a little expensive but some of their vegetables were bland.

I jumped in on a rainy night with few patrons inside. Sat at the bar and was greeted with chips and salsa. The salsa was spicy, not too hot and tasty. I was less impressed with the chicken enchiladas and I think it’s because the chicken tasted like it was boiled (juicy but flavorless). Came out quick though, maybe 10 minutes. The rice was ok and the refried beans were good but a little runny. The margarita was great but not sure it was worth the $13. I thought the food was priced right for the quality. Minus the margarita I think it’s good value.
Fair, to Good. I’ve been meaning to try this popular spot for a quite a while and last night provided a good excuse – although I was a little anxious when we walked in since the noise was deafening, and this isn’t just a grumpy person, the opinion was matched by my phones dbMeter, which measured 105 by the bar, rendering conversation impossible. Note to visitors: you’re in Boston now, so get out your wallet or head back to Weymouth or whatever backwater outpost if you are not prepared to spend, spend, spend. That being said, most entrees clock in around $9-13, which is quite reasonable. Aside from the noise level, we very much enjoyed our meal – the margeritas were among the best I’ve tasted, and while the service wasn’t perfect (very slow drink refills, wrong entree delivered, etc) it was at least friendly and warm. The high point of the meal was the ceviche prepared tableside – if you like ceviche, this is the one to try! I’m planning to go back on a slower night to get some perspective.
Tacky. I know Mexican restaurants should be tacky but this place was too much for me, and too expensive for what you receive. The food was ok, but not great – so why the high prices?HOWEVER, the chips were awesome and the place was packed on a weekday lunch. Maybe I’m wrong…
HORRIBLE. Horrible service, took 30+ mins to get drinks during dinner. we were there for 3+ hrs for dinner, manager was walking around talking to the tables the whole time, and never ONCE took the time to stop at our table, but stopped at the tables on either side of ours more than once. Never been so disappointed in a restaraunt, or service.
