Its the home for Boston Cream Pie. Came across this place during the Freedom Trail and wanted to try. This places served the first Boston Cream Pie in 1856. Definitely try the famous Boston cream pie from their bakery its so fresh and creamy.
We stopped in for dessert only as I had to get a Boston Cream Pie from the place that invented the dish. It is a restaurant inside an old exquisite hotel and was rated as one off Zagat’s Top 15 Most Iconic Restaurants in America for 2013. The atmosphere was incredible. Very English/New England feel. The Boston Cream Pie was amazing. The cake was very airy and moist while the cream filling was creamy delicious. It is topped with a chocolate ganache that was delectable. If you want Boston Cream Pie while visiting Boston then this is where you should go. Dont be surprised if they seat you upstairs in the Parkers Bar if you are just ordering dessert.
Had escargot, lump crab cake, baked boston schrod(*), for main course and boston pie cream(*) for dessert, the * marked items being historic and famous from this place for about a century. Good food in general.
Probably the most negligible service I’ve ever experienced. I ordered one drink and would have loved to order dinner, however….in over an hour not once did the waiter come back to check on me ortake my order. Totally unacceptable especially given the price! If I wasn’t staying at the hotel and for the sheer convenience of it, I would have ventured out…next time I absolutely will.
My husband and I had a fantastic time.
Simply incredible! Highly recommend!
Trapped in Amber. If you ever want to get the feeling that time has stopped, this is the perfect place to go. The high ceilings, hushed atmosphere, and formal service are hallmarks of a bygone age where words like ‘innovative’ and ‘original’ were not applied to food. You can explore the same menu and food that your ancestors may have enjoyed. Our dinner last night was pleasant enough, and an interesting break from exploring the creative side of Boston’s food scene. There are no television screens, no blasting music, nothing to indicate what century you might be in.I ordered oysters on the half shell, a caesar salad, and a pan seared branzino (sea bass) served whole, which was unexpected. The restaurant is rather expensive, but has a decent selection of moderately priced wines. I enjoyed the famous Parker House rolls and the equally famous Boston Cream Pie, and I loved sitting in the same dining room, likely eating the same things, that Charles Dickens and Ralph Waldo Emerson had for dinner. If you are a visitor to Boston, I recommend going just for desserts and coffee — you’re not going to be impressed by the cuisine here. It isn’t necessarily bad, just unapologetically dated.
