I’ll give them props for serving some darn good popovers and the side dishes were unusually well-crafted, I loved the chili oil on my broccoli rabe. The building itself is beautiful and the wine list remarkably affordable if a bit staid. But little touches like that can’t overcome the out-of-place pounding club music and overall ‘douchey’ vibe of the place. Pastas are all from a box, with characteristic gumminess and over-sauced plating. Salads are utterly flavorless. Boston is in the midst of a long-running and dynamic steakhouse bonanza, with generic chains like Del Frisco’s, Ruth’s Chris, Morton’s, Capital Grille, and Fleming’s going head to head with local iconoclast venues like Boston Chops and Grille 23. So you’ve got plenty of excellent options, all nearby, at a variety of price points.
A great dinner. Great food and a nice room. After just finishing Boston Marathon, Umbria was yet another great experience.
Amazing. I was here during Boston Restaurant Week on a date and this was a simply fantastic meal. To start, I selected the polenta with wild mushrooms. The texture of the polenta was smooth and creamy, well complimented by the earthiness of the mushrooms. I do think the portion of it was a tad on the larger side, but that might be a personal preference. For the entree, I chose the roast chicken ravioli with truffled cream and wild mushrooms. This dish was so harmonious, with the the richness of the truffles and wild mushrooms enhancing the ravioli, which was cooked to perfection. For dessert, I went with the trio of gelatos. The texture wasn’t as smooth as I expect from a gelato, but the flavors (vanilla, chocolate, and pistachio) were really nice and clean, excellent way to palate cleanse after such a luxurious meal. The service was also excellent; very pleasant and attentive.
Overpriced steakhouse…same old stuff. The ambiance was nice and the wait staff was very attentive. I had the mixed green salad, fingerling potatoes, broccoli, and the filet. Everything was adequate, but nothing was great. For the prices, I expected much more than adequate. For the most part, a completely forgettable meal and I won’t be going back. The ultra lounge aspect of the restaurant is completely lost on me. This is the second place I have visited recently that tries to bill itself as a fine dining establishment and club/lounge. The first was in SF and now in Boston. Neither pulled it off well. Decide on what you are good at and stick with it. You can’t be black tie and disco balls at the same time…
Really like it !!. Best steakhouse I’ve found besides Craftsteak, and I’ve tried many. Meat cooked to perfection, service was friendly…nice quiet atmosphere for adults. Must try if you Love steak.
Sat at the bar and had a good meal; braised short rib was fall off the bone and tender, creamed spinach not to rich and perfectly cooked. Cesar salad one of the best in a long time. It is expensive, know that going in.
At $30 a plate, portions were extremely small only to be exagerated by their oversized plates. Food was rather tasteless and luke warm. The only hilight of the restaurant was the plesantness of the server, Katie. However, even her kindness wasn’t able to make up for the fact I had to order room service back at the hotel to fill my still empty stomach.
