I just went there for a date with my girlfriend and it was great. I ordered the chicken parmesan and it must have been one of the best I have ever had. The service was great as well.
Rob and I had just arrived in Boston – our first night! We were tired, hungry AND it was raining. I searched online for local recommendations and came across Salvatore’s. What intrigued me the most was the history of this restaurant – dining in the site of the famed 1980 bank robbery. Very cool.We were promptly seated at a table to the right side of the bar. The atmosphere was great! The big wooden bar was polished and in the dim evening light, everything glowed. Yes, this was going to be a great evening. It really was a great evening. The food was delicious, the wait staff were courteous. Our server was very good and offered tips about the different menu items – we really appreciated that.We began with the meatballs and I enjoyed a nice salmon dish. Very impressed all the way around. The atmosphere, the staff and the food! After our meal, we took a little tour of the preserved bank robbery memorabilia. It would have been nice for the server to provide some history and tell us a little bit about the location. Thankfully, we were able to read about this location’s vibrant past and see photos of time-gone-by throughout the restaurant.
The restaurant is very nice looking in an old bank. Sal has expanded to many restaurants and pizza locations. His flagship restaurant is in Lawrence. This location cooks to order of what you want, but I find they can scrimp on the food and overcook things. This restaurant for these reasons is just okay. Try lunch or dinner, with your group, but don’t hold very high expectations. Try the Lawrence location as they have a nice deck on the river.
