The Hub–North Adams. My wife and me had dinner at The Hub on a tuesday evening in March. We live about an hour away and were in town on an errand. The place was nice and was doing a good dinner business. We had read the reviews and decided to try it. My wife had a garlic shrimp dish with green beans. Both were good, but the shrimp were quite small and not plentiful. I (not usually hard to please–I liked school lunches) ordered one of the specials—the Fisherman’s Platter. There were scallops, shrimp, and haddock I think it. The seafood appeared to be from an institutionally prepared previously frozen variety which I think was just dropped in the Hub’s deep fryer. The portions of scallops, shrimp, and fish were woefully small. The scallops (8) with batter (not good) were the size of small marbles. The shrimp (6) inside the fried batter were miniscule, and the fish portion could not have weighed more than 2 ounces. The green beans were good. The cole slaw was of an institutional variety. I asked if the pie and cake we were considering were homemade on premises and were told by wait staff they were. So, since we were still hungry, we ordered apple raspberry pie and chocolate mousse pie. The pies did not have a homemade taste or flavor. The apple raspberry pie reminded us of the Table Talk brand pies. The chocolate mousse cake was OK at best. My wife’s margarita was good and the 16 oz. Steel Rail Ale I had was also quite good. I would go back again, but I will not order the same entrees or dessert if I have a dessert. My spouse and me have both owned and operated restaurants in the past.
