I love Nebo because they are constantly changing their menu and using the freshest local ingredients. Nebo is located on Atlantic Ave in Downtown Boston and owned by sisters Carla and Christine Pallotta. Former hairdressers and spa owners these sisters decided to leave the beauty business behind in 2005 and opened the original Nebo in Bostons North End. The name of the restaurant even comes from that original location (Nebo= North End Boston)! Here you will find authentic Italian cuisine in a comfortable atmosphere reminiscent of their mothers kitchen they grew up in. In the spring of 2013 Nebo moved into the sisters dream location at Atlantic Wharf featuring a stunning open kitchen, floor to ceiling windows, and of course hand-rolled pastas made in house. If you want fresh and local Italian dishes, hand made pasta, hearty sauces that come from recipes passed down throughout the generations of the owners family, and a welcoming and family-oriented environment that Nebo is the place for you!And check out their zucchini lasagna – this dish beat Bobby Flay in a throwdown. I am a pasta fanatic and I did not miss it one bit in this dish that is made with all veggies and ricotta cheese. simplygourmetinsouthie.com

New Location, Menu. We always loved Nebo at their old location on the fringe of the North End, but their new digs in the so-called ‘Wharf District’ are even better. Hip, urban, Manhattan vibe which can be a little too noisy at times, but with excellent patio dining in the warmer months. They’ve kept all their Gluten Free menu items, including the rice-crust pizzas, fried calamari, and rice-based pastas but also expanded the menu to include several playful appetizers. This is not ersatz Italian-American grandma food, this is modern true Italian as one would find today in Florence or Siena, so skip it if you’re seeking meat-a-balls or lasagna or have young kids in tow. Cocktail list is quite adult – not as many of the sugary concoctions which pollute so many menus these days and while the wine list veers towards the high end, there are some budget options too.

Gluten Free menu is great!. I was pleasantly surprised by my dinner at Nebo. Great atmosphere the place was hopping when I got there just before 7pm. I started the night off with a new Gluten Free beer, Estrella Daura, a good clean lager made for a great start to the eveningOrdering was a challenge because there were over 50 gluten free items on the menu. Talk about variety. Having the added challenge of being lactose intolerant, I had to rely on help from the server. She didn’t fail. She knew the menu well, in fact, when in doubt, she checked with the chef. I was beginning to get a warm feeling about the place.Settling in for my first course, calamari fritti with Mediterranean aioli. Mmmm The calamari was lightly battered, golden brown and very delicious. It didn’t have that heavy taste that sometimes comes with GF batters. Light and crispy, I was pleasantly awaiting more. I dove into my prosciutto e fichi pizza without cheese, but added, caramelized onions. So sweet! They have 21 pizzas to choose from, plus a whole group of extra toppings. The crust is soft, not the hard thin crust I am used to, an extremely thin focaccia with hints of olive oil and nuttiness with a crunch. The sweetness of the onion, figs against the saltiness of the prosciutto made this a great dinning experience. I was full half way through the pizza, but couldn’t stop. It was that good. I might have liked more of a fig spread rather than cut up whole figs so that I could have had a more balanced fig flavor, but it was very tasty nonetheless. (have I mentioned LOVE figs)I chatted with Carla Pallotta,, half the dynamic duo that runs Nebo. She and her sister Christine, came up with the idea for the Gluten Free menu after a few experimental dinners in their kitchen for a few celiac friends. They have certainly done well. Overall great experience. By the way I failed to mention that I got stood up that night. A couple of friends had to bail at the last minute, but that certainly didn’t dampen my spirits.KevinTheGluteneer.com

Gluten Free Nutella Pizza!. I went to Nebo after hearing about their gluten free options and had a wonderful experience! Our server was friendly, the drinks were great (my friends and I all made sure to try a different one), but the food for me was the best part. I have to follow a gluten free diet, so any place that I can have everything from fried calamari to nutella pizza is okay with me! It’s one of the best (if not the best) GF restaurants I’ve been to and can’t wait to return!
