Gone downhill poor service and pricey. We have been coming to India House since the eighties. The food was average then and the service was appalling …

A+ food and ambiance. Though walking in on a Friday day means a long wait, it's definitely worth it. I've tried all of the different naans and the pan…

Good food, a bit expensive. You can’t beat the flavor of this Indian food. It has a complex, delicate but distinct flavor. It is also consistently good. You can absolutely count on having a delicious meal here. Unfortunately, the meat portions have steadily declined to the point of being absurd, especially since the price is definitely on the high end. That being said, the food is outstanding. Everything, down to the nan and the chai is authentic and genuinely delicious. The decor is nice and it is a pleasant place to bring a friend, family or even a business invitee. The deal breaker for me though was when I discovered that the owner family keeps the tips and doesn’t give ANY of the tips to the waiters. Haven’t been back since I learned this from a first hand source (someone who worked there.) This puts the customer in an awkward position. The food is already expensive and the skimpy portions make you feel like you are over-paying to begin with. Then to think you are stiffing your waiter, and giving the owners a generous tip on top of it all makes it kind of problematic. I wouldn’t think of not tipping unless the service and the food were terrible, (the service is consistently very good by the way) so, my solution, is to not go at all, which is a shame. There seems to be something deceptive and unethical about this practice because the customers think they are tipping the waitstaff. I hope to hear that this restaurant treats its staff more fairly in the future.
It is not located in Springfield as indicated but in NorthHampton
Make yourself at home. The family running this operation are always warm and lively, and you get that feeling just upon entering their restaurant. more importantly, the food they turn out is consistent, always prepared to your specifications, and the flavors are transcendent. the standout: their makai palak malai.
Good place, so-so food. The service, the staff and the ambiance were all very good.We are based out of Connecticut and have made a couple of trips to NorthHampton, based on recommendations from friends. Unfortunately, the place did not live up to its reputation when it came to food. The spices were too heavy. I do not know how to describe this but even for curries that were supposed to be mild, had very sharp tastes. The food tastes as if the spices are still uncooked, leaving a slight bitter after-taste.
Really good food. It is pricey, but not over priced as other reviews say. The price reflects the VERY wide selection of food. They will also custom make dishes for you. And you can ask for more rice if you find it isn’t enough. We had to take some home and got extra rice with it so it is by no means small portions. It is merely shocking compared to other Indian places that serve only a few choices. Great atmosphere. I love the style. Definitely romanic.
Delicious but pricey. My husband and I love Indian food and this is the only place up this way that has anything close to what we look for in Indian fare. That being said, the portions are not as big as they could be for the price paid. If you really want Indian and you are in Northampton, this is the place to go.
Mediocre, standard Indian fare. High prices.
