This is kind of a fun old-school dive. Overall, Italian entrees are okay, but not great. I do like the pizza, and sometimes their specials are very tasty. Stick with entrees or pizza, avoid the sandwiches, the bread is dry and the proportions are off.
This place rocks. If you come to Northampton, you must visit Joe’s cafe. It truly has the best pizza outside of New York (with possible exception to the original Pizzeria Regina in the North End of Boston.) The owners of this place are down to earth and are always on hand to ensure that the food is perfect. The original decor adds to the authentic feeling of the place. The spaghetti and clams and mussels are top notch, and Joe’s house special pizza will cause you to eat until you are sick because it is so delicious. Sometimes the waitstaff is surly, (OK, in fairness, it is more accurate to say the waitstaff is often surly) but the food is so outstanding, it is worth overlooking.

Best pizza in the area. If you like thin crust, this is the best in Northampton. The place is always packed. The local’s best kept secret.
Thin pizza. He best thin crust pizza in the valley. esp. good vegen w/pepperoni. the mussels in red sauce to start, perfect meal
Ordering by Numbers. Yes, you still order pizza by number at Joes.27 Aug, 2010Good food, Not snobby. Joe’s is as unpretentious as it gets. Huge portions, great prices and lots of local color are all guaranteed. The nightly specials are always a good bet – can you beat $4.99 for spaghetti and meatballs on Wednesday? The pizza is good, I wouldn’t say best in the universe or even Northampton, but certainly a cut above most of the other restaurants in town.
Need to visit again…. …I consider Joes’s the best Pizza in New Engalnd…maybe the world. I haven’t been in about 10 years but hope to return in August. I wonder if you still order by number. The old 10 by 6 got through college in the sixties…if i remeber correctly a 10 by 6 was hamburg with extra mozzarella.
