Corn anyone?. I’ve developed a love hate relationship with this place. I love the good service and simple menu. The food is good but mostly every thing is fried. They’ve had the same one vegtable on the menu since WWII, Soggy canned CORN! But I found a couple of items like the lobster roll (a litle pricey) and the hot turkey sandwich to be very good. And they do have a salad which is good. So what’s to hate? If your looking for low fat healthy meal you won’t find it here. But who can resist Grumpy’s buffalo chicken sub? Not me, See you at Grumpy’s.

A Buttery Adventure. This was stop #1 on a 2 stop lunch. It was da dudes idea to go here as I never heard of this place. Located a few blocks away from the water this Quincy establishment had the total look and feel of a diner except they don’t do breakfast. Z’ok, we were there for the burgers anyway. FYI, they do have a very big menu. The server was down-right friendly and personable like you would expect at a place in Maine verses The South Shore. Doubt she was from Maine; she had all her own teeth. Apps were Mac/cheese and rings while we each waited for our double bacon cheese burgers. The mac was ok. It might have been the Kraft kind that comes in the box with the soft cheese pouch verses the dried powder, I’ve never actually had it but I have an idea what it would taste like. Regardless, it did have a nice creamy cheesy taste and the elbows were firm and not mushy. The rings were the shoe string kind; they were crispy, tender and delicious even though they were unseasoned. The burgers were, well, interesting and I do mean interesting. Not interesting as in they were bad and I don’t want to say it but it was a very unique sandwich. The twin thin patties were cooked on a flat top with cheese and bacon and that was it, no edible garnish, straight down to business. Well, there were fries which were ok but very average and probably frozen. The bun was soft and toasted and held up pretty well to the stuff in between. So, what made it so interesting? What set it apart from any other burger I’ve ever had? Butter! Man, loads and loads of butter. Both of us thought the same thing, it tasted more like a grilled cheese sandwich, even with two patties, you can hardly taste the meat. The only thing I could think of was that the burgers were cooked in butter. I don’t know if you could get that much butter just from the bun. I don’t think my dining companion enjoyed his but I finished mine. Like I said, it was interesting. I don’t know if I would order that again but I would go back there. As I mentioned, the menu is huge and they actually have a few different kinds of burgers that might be worth exploring. Hey, between the meat, the cheese and the butter, you can’t say they don’t pay homage to the cow. And yes, I did go have another full lunch only minutes after all this. Man I have issues.
