Great lunch spot in Salem. Girlfriend and I came here for a last lunch out before she went home. I had heard of Cafe Kushco and knew that it was reknown for its frozen yogurt but we were surprised at the quality and taste of the food!Cozy decor welcomed us and a vast, but carefully laid out, menu decorated the wall behind the counter. Two employees were working the lunch shift on a Wednesday and were a little slower than normal but the wait was worth it (to both enjoy people watching in Downtown Salem and to gaze around the restaurant). She had an eggplant parmesan pita roll-up with vegan Minestrone soup and I had a Mediterranean tuna pita roll-up with the lemon chicken soup. Both soups were fantastic with the chicken providing a zesty contrast to the strings of chicken amongst the broth. The tuna sandwich was rounded out with greens and artichoke hearts to give it that Mediterranean flavor and the eggplant roll-up tasted as if it came out of the oven as an entree in the North End.For dessert we could not pass on the frozen yogurt and decided that we had to start with vanilla, but what about the toppings? For 45c/topping we added: honey graham pieces, cheesecake pieces and blueberries that rivaled the blueberry cheesecake from the Cheesecake Factory itself! The meal was pricey, $21 for 2 1/2 sandwich and soup combos and $6 for the dessert however we have already planned our next froyo concoction when we return (vanilla, coconut, pineapple and ginger…tropical!)
