Phinz!. I went there on Sunday 9/28/14. DO NOT GO THERE! Traveled to Salem a a sunny and warm Sunday. We decided to try Phinz while up there because of the reviews on The Phantom Gormet. It would appear Phinz pays the Phantom good money to plug their restaurant. My date saw the Crab cakes on the menu and decided to order the entres size for her dinner, rather the appetizer size. Big Mistake! First, our meals did not arrive together. I ordered the Lobster Mac and Cheese. She received her plate first. It took 10 minutes to then receive my plate. When she received her dinner, it contained only 1 subpar crab cake surrounded by vegetables. We asked why only 1 crab cake? We didn’t receive a valid answer. Only to say they use very little bread. We sent it back and she ordered a Lobster Roll instead. Which was marginal at best. The Pub 99 offers a much better one and is $2 less. My Lobster Mac and Cheese is supposed to be a Great 8 on the Phantom Gourmet. It was home made, but bland. My Mother’s Mac and Cheese from scratch is so much better. Since we sent a meal back, one would think management would come over and apologize or find out why we sent it back. NOPE! No one ever came over. Lousy food and bad service. Definitely a tourist trap! IF ANYONE READS THIS,LEARN BY MY LESSON AND STAY AWAY. NOT WORTH THE MONEY!!! So many better restaurants in the area!!!!

Over-hyped, definitely overpriced. My fianc and I stayed in Salem for a week’s vacation in July. We ate our way through this amazing, historic town, that easily has some of the best restaurants in the country! I’ve done a lot of travelling in my day, and I was constantly blown away by the quality of food, the dearth of options offered in cuisine, the freshness of the seafood, and the fantastic service of each place. That being said, Finz was probably the least enjoyable of our experiences (Tavern on the Square, Naumkeag Ordinary, Guru Guru, Salem Beerworks, Flying Saucer Pizza, and Finz) in our time there. We were there on a Friday, and the place was packed. I ordered a mixed drink (I forget which now at this point) and it was pretty good, and they came out pretty quickly. I ordered the Wasabi Oysters appetizer, and the Black and White sesame Tuna. The oysters were pretty good, very fresh, but the other places we ate had better. Our entrees were disappointing. My fianc had the bacon encrusted Filet Mignon. I love bacon. Hell, I obsess about bacon when I have too much time to think. This steak, however, was absolutely covered in it. It was intensely smokey, and in the end took away SO much from what should have been a great cut of meat. Not to mention the over-powering and thick demi glace, which took the rest of any steak flavor that was still on the meat. She wound up eating a quarter of it and putting it aside. My tuna was average. It too seemed over-seasoned. Not to mention the fish itself tasted like it had sat in the gobs of sauce a bit too long. I think that was the problem with the whole experience. It was average, and also the most expensive restaurant we ate at in Salem. There was so much hype for this place too from several recommendations in local mags. We didn’t really see it.For $135 and average food (at best), once was enough.Appetizer: Wasabi OystersDrink ($12 cocktail, forget which, not memorable) Entre: Black and White Sesame Tuna, Bacon encrusted Filet MignonFinal bill was $135. Save your money and check out any of the other above restaurants mentioned. You’ll enjoy it a lot more and spend a hell of a lot less.

Lobster Roll. I love lobster and I kept hearing on my visit that I must try a lobster roll. Delicious and wonderful view of the water!

Lobster ravioli was tasty. Live band was great. Nice place to have a relaxed meal where you can still talk with your friends or enjoy the tunes.
