I’ve now been here twice – 20 years apart. It was absolutely worth it both times. Reds is small and entirely local. It was recommended to me on both occasions by residents walking on the street. The place is busy so expect a short wait. However once you’re seated the service is quick and friendly. The breakfast was truly excellent and the portions were large enough that no one is going to walk away hungry. Cost wise it’s about par for the course for a tourist area breakfast place – about $60 for the five of us. Given the amount and quality of the food it was worth every penny. Hopefully I’ll have a chance to enjoy it again before another twenty years pass.

Quality, Quantity, Flavor, and Afforability. This place has a lot of character, basically an old house (c. 1698) converted into a mom & pop diner. The kitchen is completely open, surrounded by circular counter tops and booths. The staff is extremely friendly and offered great recommendations to their vast menu of lunch and breakfast items. They are known for the breakfast, but I couldn’t help but be intrigued by their Specialty Sandwiches so I shared a Monte Cristo and an Eggplant Parmigiana. The Monte Cristo was piled high with ham, turkey, and swiss between 2 slices of flimsy French Toast. I think the sandwich could have been better with an addition of jam. The fries were great. The open-face Eggplant Parmigiana was probably the best Eggplant Parmesan sandwich I have ever had in my life. The marinara was fabulous in flavor, loaded with cheese, thick toasted bun, and crispy, tender eggplant slices. A must try!

About as average and unsatisfying as it gets. What is everyone lining up for?

Good food at a good price. Red’s is a diner type of sandwich shop. Everything is made on the grill and is of good quality. It’s cheap and they give you a good size portion. Definitely a must if visiting Salem.
