Lobster Roll a ripoff. Has to be the smallest lobster roll I’ve ever seen. If it weren’t for the blues music on Sundays I would never go there.

Mixed…. We went to the Black Lobster early Friday evening before heading to the movies. We were seated promptly outdoors on their deck. Knowing the area like we do, we understood what the view would be, we were in Salem by the bypass overlooking Beverly harbor at an odd angle. Given the location of the restaurant the view is not going to be sweeping views of open ocean nor would the view really be that of that of the be that of the harbor. However given the day was nice, sitting outside was nice. Our waiter was very nice and we explained that we needed to be somewhat quick with our meal as we needed to get to the movies and he assured us all would be fine. So we ordered. The food came out in somewhat short order, we were pleasantly surprised in the speed. Dinner was good, my steak tips were well prepared, as were the Bucket of Shellfish. The hamburger however was done with some seasoning that did not set well. So if you are a plain hamburger type be sure to specify no seasoning or minimal. All was going well and then at the end of our meal we could not find our waiter. So I found the hostess and she tried to track him down as well and after some time we did manage to find him and get our check. He was very nice, but distracted it seems on follow through at the end.Needless to say we were later than we wanted to be, would have been fine if we did not have to run around trying to find our waiter – the only real bummer of the evening.

Thumbs down. Visited this restaurant for the first time on Thurs, July 8, 2010. The weather was beautiful and sitting outside without cars whizzing by at high tide was a treat. Unfortunately, the view had nothing to offer. Sat at the bar waiting for an outdoor table and ordered a glass of chardonnay, but got a glass of pinot even though when I asked the waiter he told me it was chardonnay. Our waiter, with bright yellow framed glasses, lacked patience and personality. Clam chowder had a hint of nutmeg or all spice and was delicious! Interesting flavor combination. I ordered the baked haddock with mashed potatoes and summer vegetables. Haddock – good, potatoes – good, vegetables – awful choice combination by the chef. Half way thru my meal I found a good sized piece of brown paper towel mixed in with my vegetables. I was not pleased, but the less than friendly waiter kindly removed my entire meal from the bill. My dinner companion chose the clam roll dinner, and although the clams were light and tasty, there were only about 6 clams in the grilled hot dog roll. All and all a bit disappointing, and I won’t be returning. Sorry – thumbs down by me.
