A Classic Throwback. As other reviewers have said, this place is an upscale throwback to another era. Instead of being allowed to deteriorate and decay however, it remains beautifully maintained, with shiny leather booths and a spotless interior. For maximum experience, request a table in the oldest section of the restaurant, the ‘train’, tables 1-10. The main dining room is huge and sprawling and can get a bit noisy with all the octogenarians shouting at each other. The food is perfectly fine, unapologetically dated, minimally seasoned, but nicely fresh. If nothing else, go for the exquisite popovers!! The wine list is surprisingly well-curated and prices are quite reasonable.

A great night out. This is an old fashioned, but beautifully maintained restaurant. We ate in the lounge where there was dancing and music. There were crackers and a relish when we sat down, popovers when we ordered, some appetizers compliments of the house and then salad, 3 types of bread/rolls, potato that came with the meal. Everything was delicious. Drinks were very reasonably priced. Waitstaff was VERY friendly. We would go here again in a heartbeat.

Classic Dinning Experience. Born out of a bygone era, The Continental is one of the last remaining icons on Route 1 in Saugus. The large leather chairs are extremely comfortable and the waitresses have been there for years and one of the best staff you will find in the area. The food is excellent but the portion size is smaller then some of the other steak houses. However, you do get served their trademark appitizers like corn fritters, pop overs and bean dip. Salad is also included in the cost of the meal. Early bird specials also include dessert and coffee. The decor is fancy but the menu is nothing special. The wine list has many familiar labels. The dessert is excellent and I recommend the baklava. Continental has always been reserved for special occasions but these days, any excuse is a good reason to go and enjoy.
