Not a fancy restaurant but they serve excellent typical Turkish cuisine. Friendly staff. Rather cramped seating as it is a small place. Well worth the trip for eggplant and lamb dishes.

We went to Istanbul’lu for lunch today. It’s a small place right at the corner of busy Teele square. Their menu has a wide range of options from sandwiches, veggie dishes, egg dishes, hot & cold dishes to kebabs. For appetizer we ordered a plate of Turkish mornings and for main course we ordered – Menemen, Izmir Kofte, Adana Kebab and Lamb Kebab. Met a friend there. Started with some Turkish Efes beers. They didnt have the dark stuff unfortunately. We had to stick to the lagar which was too light to matter. Paca is a well known Turkish village soup with Lamb, yogurt and garlic. Nice stuff. Due to some reason I got a thai taste in that. God knows why. Could be due to milk or cream. Most certainly there wasnt any coconut milk. Moving on. We had hot tapas. Leyla Ile Mecnun, which supposedly is almost everyone’s favorite hummus. Turkish beef sausage cooked with butter. Served with warm pieces of pita bread. Again good. Again, somehow I got the taste of ghee in that. But could be clarified butter – given that ghee doesnt exist in turkish cuisine, to the best of my knowledge. Till now everything was going quite average with a bias towards good. But suddenly things took an excellent turn as soon as the entree arrived.Kofte Plateis a very famous dish in this region. Ground meat mixed with chopped onions, spices and bread crumbs, served with roasted veggies, rice, potatoes and yogurt. The kofte in short tasted amazingly good, simply delicious. One of the best dishes I have tasted in USA. Whats even better, all the accompaniments, the veggies, roasted tomatoes, were also individually tasty making the overall meal insanely good. Ending on this high note, I have to say the meal was very well worth the money. The place is a bit small, but cosily decorated. Service is good. All in all great experience except for a couple of loud Indians of the uncultured variety in the background who ended their detestable evening’s performance by trying to pick up the waitresses. Makes me lower my head in shame, nothing less. But returning to food, the kofte are a must try and worth a journey. Definitely a 4 experience
