This is the type of restaurant you bring your parents to when they’re visiting to show them that you don’t live like an absolute bum all of the time. The space is smaller and intimate, and surprisingly it seems to be the only restaurant in the area that serves up fresh seafood. Aren’t we in Boston? The swordfish scalopini and scallop dishes were prepared well with reasonable portions. The entire menu is on the pricey side, so I don’t see myself coming here often, but I’m glad it calls Davis home, as there are sure to be occasions where this is just the place you’re looking for. A date with a rich, older gentleman, maybe?
Friday Night @ O.o.T.B.. Reserved table was ready when we walked in the door @ 6:45. Service was quick and efficient throughout the meal, but not intrusive. Like most Italian restaurants Out of the Blue is noisy and crowded with people having a great time eating good food simply cooked. Excellent perfectly fresh house salad of greens, ripe tomatoes, peppers and onion. very good house balsamic vinaigrette. My wife had the grilled salmon ( cooked to perfection) with mushroom and onion sauce and baked sweet potato. Putanesca with pan seared scallops was outstanding. We asked our waiter to get us out by 7:45 so we could get to Somerville Theatre by 8:00 No problem! We were on our way by 7:30. Highly recommended! Although we live in Shrewsbury (40 mile drive) we can’t wait to go back; so much so that we’re looking for Davis Square attractions to give us an excuse to eat at Out of the Blue again! ****
Great Food. I drive down from the North Shore. I know plenty of great seafood restaurants in my area. Out of the Blue is awesome. The stuffed Calamari app. is one of the best I’ve ever had. The fish is always fresh. This place should have a line around the block every night to get in. Great food, Great people, Great service.
Great food, especially for (but not just) seafood lovers. I remember my first trip to OotB, when they were in a smaller space off Davis Square. It was amazing. Now, years after I moved from the Boston area, I return once every couple of months, bringing together groups of friends for dinner. The food is incredible! The seafood risotto alone is worth the trip, and the spicy calamari is a must. The decor has been described by others as kitschy, but the atmosphere is warm and it is the kind of restaurant where a meal can be the entire evening.
Great for special times!. We needed a place for a late lunch for 10, and Out of the Blue was the right place! We had salads, apps, fish, pasta, meats and sandwiches. It was all fabulous. Service was very attentive (granted it was a 3:00 lunch) but not annoying. Wine and beer only, not a full bar. Will definitely return.
Great Food – Decor – Wait Staff. We just came home from dinner at Out of the Blue – everything was just wonderful. Our attentive busboy immediately brought water and bread/oils. Our choices of the tomato/mozzarela salad and clam casinos were awesome! Followed up with Chicken Marsala, and Filet Mignons – all perfectly done. Very nice staff, parking right outside – comfy and casual with great portions and food.We will return very soon and you should make a trip – you will be very happy!
