So we travelled all the way to Somerville to give this place a try! It’s right on Davis square but its still a pain to locate, its right across the street from eastern bank. You will have to take a flight of stairs from the street down to the pub.The place is very cosy .. Liked the decor a lot! The mood in the bar however was pretty mellow which was a big spoiler for usWe ordered wedges, fried pickles and corn cobs .! The wedges were okay..the fried pickles were good and the corn cobs were absolutely amazing! The corn is sprinkled with cheese and tastes amazing!Disappointingly their bar did not have a few whisky’s that we wanted .Otherwise the drinks were fine and so were the cocktails. The service was prompt and good!

My friend insisted on taking us to Saloon before we departed Boston, so we stopped in for a drink and a snack. Located in the basement of one of the buildings along the main thoroughfare through town, the interior is designed with elaborate woodwork, giving the place a true early 20th century feel. I was driving, so I limited myself to taking a sip of each of my companions’ cocktails, and they were both quite good. Like the hipters we claim we aren’t, we ordered the meat and cheese board. The selection was excellent, especially the house-made pork rillette. While our visit was short, I am looking forward to returning to try more of their menu and having a drink of my own.

Since this speakeasy-style bar isn’t easily spotted from the street (there’s only a small, white lamp with the name written on it outside), Saloon used to be the type of bar that you suggested when you were trying to impress someone. Too bad it seems like others had this same idea, since now everyone and all their old OK Cupid dates know about (and regularly frequent) this place. But you can still try it and see how it goes! People who are pretty new to Cambridge are a good target. But from experience, you should let them know how to find it beforehand because if not they may think you’re standing them up by suggesting a fake place to meet up. Whoops.Regardless, it’s still a classy choice to get a drink in Davis. I prefer to go on an off night (a great excuse to drink on a Monday!) since it’s much less crowded, it’s easy to grab a table, and the atmosphere is calmer and more intimate. On weekend nights, it’s a completely different scene. There are people standing around everywhere. Randos will talk to you. It’s loud.Saloon has solid drink choices, and the menu is on wooden clipboards, which adds a funky touch but can be bulky if you’re sitting at a small table. There aren’t many food options, but if you’re on a date, rev up the romance by ordering some wine and the charcuterie plate. The bar is a fun place to grab seats so you can watch the cute, suspender-rocking bartenders mix things up. I usually opt for beer since it’s a bit easier on my wallet, and the prices are in keeping with similar spots in the area like Foundry. The Lexington Bourbon Ale ($7) is a personal fave since it rocks smokey bourbon tones and is served in a cool rounded glass.Saloon is Davis epitomized. Alternative morphs to mainstream. But hey, I guess that’s how you can tell something’s good. And I will definitely keep trying to impress people by how sophisticated and knowledgeable I am by suggesting it. I’ll just have to swear them to secrecy.

Rich, delicious, sophisticated comfort food. One of the better meals I’ve had in a long time. This restaurant featured rich, delicious, sophisticated comfort food in a very cool underground setting. Reasonably priced with tons of beers and whiskeys to choose from. Simple menu and good setting for dinner dates.

Cool, eclectic, and fairly upscale gathering place in Davis square awaits!. We dined at Saloon in Davis square this past Saturday night and had 6pm reservations. You walk downstairs to find a large dining room and bar area with rich dark woods and elegant pub like atmosphere. It was already fairly booming at 6 and by the time we left it was full. The menu is interesting and petite…a handful of appetizers, a handful of entrees, 1 salad, and a few specials. But there is truly something for everyone, meat lovers, vegetarian, fish, there is an option for all. And since we were a group of 6, we tried several appetizers, and several different entrees to share. They were all delicious and beautifully prepared. The drink menus on the other hand is anything but small…so whatever you want…beers, wine, specialty drinks, whiskeys…they have it! The servers were courteous and professional, the hostess was super nice and the prices for the food items were reasonable for what you got. The feta stuffed dates wrapped in bacon were awesome and the homemade pretzel…a specialty that day…was the melt in your mouth yummiest one we had ever had. Definitely a great place to go out for a couple or with a group of friends. We’ll be back!

Good drinks, slow service. The atmosphere was really nice. Got two seats at an elevated table across from the bar which is a shared table with others. I love how the spirits menu is set up offering the spirits as a regular pour, old fashioned, or manhattan. The drinks were delicious but a little over priced (but I assume you are paying for the experience as well). The one thing I have to complain about was the service. The place was not even half full and it took at least 15 minutes before the waitress came over to take our order. Our waitress never checked in on us, and we couldn’t get her attention to pay our bill and had to get the attention of another waitress. I will give it another chance, because the place is nice, I just hope the service is better.
