We came to El Centro tonight after a long day walking the Freedom Trail. It’s a small place a little off the beaten path with a local neighbourhood feel. Staff was pleasant and helpful.Having children with you that aren’t familiar with more authentic Mexican makes this a bit of a tougher sell and the lack of a specific children’s menu can further complicate things. That’s said the food was quite good, particularly the shrimp in a drunken sauce. The service was quick and the meals were hot and fresh.Prices were a little on the high side, especially given its not in a high traffic area. That said, the total package was a generally positive experience.
El Centro of Boston MA. Growing up in Florida, I have had numerous Latin America dishes and never expected to find one this good in Boston. The wait staff was a little slow but the food was impeccable and satisfying. Their Bistec Ranchero was delicious as well as their use of Romano cheese.

Cheap Imitation. El Centro, is really not very good. I have tired their food twice, and I don’t think that I will go back. The sangria is gross. It had jalapenos or some pepper in it. They also microwave some of their food!!!! If I want to get a microwave taco then I will go to Seven Eleven!
Once was enough. First impressions of this restaurant are of a cozy, bustling place that is comfortable but not fancy. Main dishes cost between $15 – $23. A dinner for two including a shared appetizer, two main dishes and shared dessert is approximately $50 – $60 (drinks and tip not included). The food was flavorful, good portions and arrived promptly, and although I like the look of El Centro and the food was good, I don’t feel like it was a great value. I do wish this tiny restaurant luck but there are several other options which provide a more refined dining experience for the same price and more affordable options in the neighborhood if I’m in the mood for an equally casual dining experience. bosguy.com
