  Half Vienna please…the sandwhich not the city. Frigo’s is your quintessential Italian deli that was probably opened with the help of a grandmother’s cookbook. Not only do they have amazing deli meats/cheeses and rolls they also offer plenty of prepared foods as well. While I believe the Springfield location is the original they also have a shop in East Longmeadow not far from the infamous rotary. I will say having visited both many times the Springfield location has more old school charm but the East Longmeadow shop is a little more heavy handed with the meat they put on each sandwich. Whenever we order takeout at the office Frigo’s is always on the short list as it has something for everyone. My personal favorite is the ‘Downtown’ and of course you order it in the 1/2 vienna size which is code for a sandwich that could feed a family of four. They offer other sizes but for the price of the big one (around $7 depending on sandwich) it rarely makes sense to go with anything else. The ‘Downtown’ starts with fresh sliced roast beef followed by large slabs of fresh mozzarella and whatever veggies and sauces/oils you want added. Once you’ve determined how you are going to attack it and you finally get a bit all of the flavors hit you at once and its something amazing. It puts all the chain sandwich/sub shops to shame for sure and at a price that competes pretty well too. It is somewhat surprising to me that they’ve only expanded to two locations as it would seem they’d be successful anywhere. For now two is what we have and I’m just happy they aren’t to far out of the way for me.
