A Bit of Heaven on Dark & Stormy Night. It was a dark and stormy night as we passed through Springfield, MA and we were hungry. What vegetarian restaurant would still be open at 9:00 pm? Panjabi Tadka was and a taste of heaven it was with a lovely staff. Headed south on I-91 it was relatively easy off to reach Main St. We did pass it by, but stuck to our quest and located it on the south side of the street in the first block past the stone arch that rose over Main. A good landmark. Tables were nicely laid, with cloth napkins, helpful and quick service. Cannot remember our dishes, but they were wonderful vegetarian and the garlic nan was crispy & chewy and the masala tea was delicious. Definitely 5 Yums Up on this one.

Great Indian Food in downtown Springfield. Panjabi Tadka is located at the site of the former Sitar that closed after 25 plus years. It looks like Panjabi Tadka is taking over Sitar’s great tradition without skipping a beat. The menu is similar to Sitar with an emphasis on northern indian cuisine. Currently they have no liquor licensee We dined on Chat Papri a mixture of potatoes, chick peas with puffy wafers in a yogurt and tamarind sauce which was delicious. The Matter Paneer was excellent. I asked for medium hot and it found it to be spicy and hotter than what we normally get in the area. The Chili Paneer was good. The garlic naan was very tasty with a strong flavor. I really enjoyed the saffron long grained rice that came with our meal. We capped off the meal with some a generous portion of Kheer rice pudding that soothed our palates after a nice, spicey meal. If you like Indian food, give Panjabi Tadka a try
