    St. Louis Ribs. Awesome dinner.

Excellent food with a very cool atmosphere. I got off to a bit of a slow start. Had a seat at the bar, and it looks like the regulars usually have the bartenders ear, so it took a bit to get my drink. Eventually got some advice from the other bartender, and had them put me together a plate. I went with the St. Louis ribs, beef brisket, and some pulled pork. The barbecue is served with honey slaw, collard greens, cornbread, and baked beans. The brisket came on Texas Toast.Food came out quick, and there was a lot of it. All the sides were excellent. The cornbread had a good texture, and wasn’t too sweet or too bland. The baked beans had a good seasoning and decent amount of meat to them, and the texture was just right. The collards were very tasty; not bitter or overly salty which happens much too often. All the meat was very good. Excellent flavor to the rub, moist & tender. The brisket was tender enough to cut with a fork, and the ribs had a wonderful flavor on their own without any sauce. There were 3 sauces, a mustard, a bourbon bbq, and spicy, all of which were very good. Good flavor, not too spicy, and thick enough to stick to the meat.At the advice of the bartender, I finished with the Guinness Brownie with ice cream on the side. I was told it’s made in house and it was very tasty. It’s a very fudgy brownie, with an excellent texture, but isn’t overly dense, decorated with what appeared to be caramel and chocolate sauce.Overall, excellent food with a very cool atmosphere. Will definitely be back the next time I’m around.

Music writer/reviewer. Theodore’s is the place for great BBQ in Springfield! It has plenty to offer in the way of music especially Blues. They do feature Rock and Country with an occasional Live Band Karaoke night. Check out the friendly vibe and enjoy some ribs.

Best BBQ around!. First review written and why wouldn’t it be about Theodore’s,my favorite restaraunt in the area period! Literally have had just about everything on the menu and haven’t been disappointed yet..for apps the pepper jack cheese sticks, burnt ends and corn fritters are amazing..whoever thought of battering pepper jack cheese and frying it is just a genius! Burgers,Ribs or Jumbalaya are just a few of the awesome dinner options. Like a previous blogger posted, they do offer an assortment of BBQ sauces. However, they understated what a great accompaniment they are to an already delicious meal. For dessert(if you have room),the peanut butter pie is a must. As amazing as the food is at Theodore’s,the atmosphere is a gem downtown. From various nostalgic memorabilia adorning the walls,to the mural of famous jazz and blues artists, there is something to look at throughout. But,be sure to check them out on the weekend when they have live music to really get the full experience. Wash it all down with one of the many beers on draft, and you will have a guaranteed great night out!

Barbeque? In Massachusetts?. I’m not sure what I was expecting from a barbeque restaurant in Massachusetts (not exactly known for its ‘que), but I thought it was going to be better than this…In an attempt to try a little bit of everything upon my first visit, I ordered the pulled pork and the ribs (dry), figuring I’d help myself to their 3 different sauces, if I needed them: Bourbon BBQ, Carolina Mustard, and Chipotle BBQ. Everyone knows really good barbeque doesn’t need any sauce, but this wasn’t the case, unfortunately. I tried all of the sauces in search for a winner, but I have to say, these were quite honestly the worst barbeque sauces I’ve ever tried. Seriously. If I had to pick a favorite, it was probably the Carolina Mustard…but again, these were the worst barbeque sauces I’ve ever tasted, so that’s not saying a lot. The pulled pork wasn’t exactly pulled – had to break out the knife and cut it up as it was one dried up lump of pork. Again, not good. I was looking forward to the ribs, thinking these would be the saving grace, but again, no luck. Once you got past the half inch shell of char, there was a hint of flavor but the the burnt taste in my mounth was just too overpowering to overcome. So much for the ribs. As for the sides, the collard greens were bland, but the waffle fries were excellent – first time ever having waffle fries with barbeque, but thank God I did. These, along with the friendly staff, the great service, and the really cool atmosphere (think dive bar meets blues joint) were the only highlights. Theodore’s has a lot of potential. It feels like a place that would be serving up great food, but it’s just not there, quite yet. Keep trying Theodore’s!
