Impressive Wine List. I will echo what other reviews have already said about the incredible menu of Italian wines at this upscale place on Main Street in Waltham (of all places!). Since I had read their reviews, this didn’t surprise me. What impressed me the most on my first visit last night during Restaurant Week was their RW menu wasn’t some stripped down affair composed largely of cheap, high-margin starches — they had spectacular choices like seared foie gras on a bed of roasted figs and an unbelievably generous bias-cut ribeye served with Italian white beans and roasted asparagus and these were my choices for the night. My companion ordered the porcini mushroom souffl and allowed me to sample a bit of it — I was instantly smitten, along with everyone else apparently, because we saw it being delivered to table after table throughout the night. Although we had arrived nearly 45 minutes late for our reservation due to traffic, we were warmly greeted at the door by the hostess who nodded apologetically about the parking situation. My preprandial martini was expertly prepared with no shortcuts taken – three fat olives garnishing an ice cold glass of top shelf gin over which a whisper of vermouth had been chanted. Service from beginning to end was warm and smooth and even though the place was absolutely packed on a dismal rainy Tuesday night, we were never rushed from our table. It really felt like we were dining in Italy. Already planning my next meal there.

One of the most interesting wine lists in the World. I’ve been eating at Il Capriccio at least once a quarter for the past six years. Jeannie Roger’s wine list is unique, thoughtful and reflects her passion for Italian wines (especially). I travel frequently and cannot think of a more interesting and reasonably priced wine list – ANYWHERE. The food is delicious as well, with an emphasis on seasonal and local ingredients. Make sure you invite Jeannie to guide you through her list; don’t trust your own knowledge or instincts – you are better off in her hands. I pay attention to wine and ALWAYS just turn it over to her.
