We were 5 of us who went on a Friday afternoon without any reservation the day after Thanksgiving. I would say it’s an ideal sandwich brunch place. The meat stacks and sausage links with it’s decor gives it a modern butcher restaurant ambience. I would recommend it as a must try place in Waltham.Must Have: Spicy Cuban
This is a really cool looking place and they have lots of fresh and higher end sandwiches. This is very impressive. However, I couldn’t find any healthy starches or great veggies, so I just had coffee. Sad because it has a great deal to offer, just not healthy enough for my diet needs.
The Katz: If you only get one sandwich here, this (named after NYC’s most famous deli’s most famous meat) is the one to get. The pastrami has deep flavor from several sources: the spices, the cure, the smoke and a finishing stint in a pan that gives it a very bacony feel. The mustard and pickle treatment make it a Jewish Italian hybrid. Banh mi: Nothing about this one is authentic, but it still works. It’s more about the cold cuts than the vegetation, which is the opposite of the traditional ratio. On a hot summer’s day the coolness of the sandwich is perfect, and would fit right in on a picnic. One time this came with the customary pickled vegetables; another time cole slaw (huh???) filled in. Corned beef: Very solid. Only thing is, it’s similar to but not as good as the Katz. Remember, if you’re only getting one sandwich, the Katz is the one to get. Italian: The ingredients on this one very from visit to visit, so it’s a bit like a roulette wheel. I got a so-so one once and hit the jackpot once. Do you feel lucky? Burger: A Saturday special brings a thick patty and crusty Ciabatta. A little pricy for what you get, but good. Potato Chips: Skip these. Greasy. Charcuterie: Long before they opened the Backroom next door, Moody’s was creating some fantastic salumi, and it’s still available on this side of the house. If you don’t split a third sandwich with your date, split some of this. Bottom Line: Don’t go in expecting faithful adaptations of the classics, even (especially) the Katz, but expect high quality and creativity that’ll have you planning your next visit before you’re out the door. pigtrip.net
Awesome customer service. We just went to moodys deli in Waltham today not knowing they were closed on mondays. Fortunately for us the owner Josh happened to be there To open the door. He apologized for any inconvenience we may have incurred. I had mentioned that the Phantom had sent us having had seen his business on the gourmet the previous day. To our surprise Josh was kind enough to invite us in and prepare us two delicious sandwichs. We both could immediately taste the difference in quality of meats with our first bite. The sandwichs and more importantly the customer service were amazing. Can’t wait to drop by and enjoy a sandwich when they are actually open. Thank you josh. Big Mike & Jack Just Right Construction
Best meal ever!. So the food at this place is spectac! chef Josh makes all of his own meats – the ambiance is inviting – egg sandwich with his homemade sausage? amazing!homemade smoked turkey melted in your mouth – the sandwich was overstuffed and could feed two of us easily! Saw folk raving about the Bahn mi (i have no idea what was in there) and the Revers – two of their signature sandwiches – stop by – staff friendly and inviting – Jesse – guy behind the counter slicing meats offered us many to try while we were waiting for our sandwich – explaining the cuts of meat along the way – can’t wait to go back and try more – including the homemade truffle potato chips which were already sold out on our first visit as we went in for a late lunch……..Kudos to Chef Josh and welcome to the hood!!
