I really enjoyed the homey feel of the restaurant and the tasty innovative apps like the house bread, the sweet potato bravas and the truffle fries – dip them in the aioliDrawback for me was the crazy bathroom sink – I know it’s not food related, but atmosphere counts for something right? I also missed having salt on the table and thought the mac and cheese was lacking the American traditional flavors. thefabempire.com
Steadily Improving. I love seeing a restaurant gradually improve with time rather than go into a decline. When it first opened Tempo didn’t seem to know its niche but over the past two years has firmly hit its stride, especially in regards to the service and quality of food. Prices remain high, so this isn’t a place if you are clipping coupons, but for an elegant grown-up evening out, with consistently wonderful food and a nice positive buzz in the atmosphere, this is the place I pick. It actually feels like one of the better Boston hotspots — impressive for Waltham. My dinner last night consisted of two appetizers, the grilled oysters and the shrimp cocktail, along with a main course of the veal porterhouse chop. The oysters were a little disappointing, in the future I will order them raw on the half-shell with their amazing mignonette sauce. The shrimp cocktail consisted of four monstrously large tiger prawns served in a martini glass with a thick, somewhat under-spiced cocktail sauce. The veal chop was an obscenely large hunk of meaty perfection – over two inches thick and grilled perfectly medium rare. For dessert I had the fried Ipswich clams which were delectable, feather-light and whole belly.
