Great meal, easy location and great service. Our dinner at Grotto was excellent. The menu is not long, but the choices we made we great. The waiter was very helpful in picking a wine (Montepulciano) that met my GF’s palate perfectly. We tried the Cavatelle and Fonduta to start, both were great, the Fonduta served with 4 steak tenderloin chunks and 4 hunks of Portabella, the cheese was creamy and sharp as one would might expect with Italian. The cavatelle was served with sausage, pancetta and peas in a creamy sauce a near perfect medley. I’d consider requesting dinner portion it was so good. Our entrees were a tenderloin served perfectly medium rare atop classic parm risotto and surrounded by a red wine reduction. The beef was as good a piece of filet as I’ve ever had. My GF went for the classic spaghetti and meatballs. Another spot on meal, the meatballs being the best we’d ever had. The sauce was good and the pasta itself good but unremarkable. We also tried a side of the brussel sprouts served up with pancetta, garlic and parm. These were perfectly tender but not mushy, excellently balanced with the bacon and cheese, another 10 of 10! The only detraction for us were the tightness of the overall seating and very limited lighting. It was cozy and romantic albeit we were right by the door, other tables had were too close for an intimate meal, except for the few booths and what appears to be the most romantic table in Boston in the corner. Alas, my seat against the wall had my elbow in constant contact with a rough piece of granite jutting from the wall. All in all, an excellent meal, maybe try for a specific reservation of a booth to get the full experience and make sure to bring glasses if you even remote need them due to the lighting.
