Average. Ma Soba’s menu is an eclectic mix of Asian fare – it leans heavily on Japanese cuisine and sushi, but you’ll find some Chinese and Korean dishes on offer as well. The restaurant was not busy on the weeknight we visited, but service was still painfully slow. I opted for udon with vegetables and tempura, and while the noodle soup was quite good and the veggies crisp and bright, the tempura vegetables fell flat. When I lived in Japan I loved the delicately battered, fried veggies, and perhaps if Ma Soba had access to Japanese vegetables theirs would have been crisp and tasty, but instead the sweet potatoes and courgettes were mushy, unappealing, and ended up being thrown out.The restaurant looks quite swish from the street, and it would appear that someone has spent a lot of money getting the look ‘just right,’ but it’s a shame they haven’t taken that amount of care with the food.

Get the bento box. The food is slightly above standard for most Asian places in the city. We always get the bento box combinations and they always seem to work.

One of the better places. Although the sushi was somewhat overpriced, it was one of the better sushi places that I’ve been to in Boston. At least they put a lot of fish/meat in your rolls~ And it was fresh. Don’t get the hot and sour soup. It was neither spicy, sour, or hot temperature wise (although the one wonton that came in the soup was good). It had a strong taste of sesame oil.
