Great food, excellent knowledgeable service.the layout and decor encourage guests to relax and have fun. We had a party consisting of ages in the 70s down to 9 year olds, and all loved it.
After working in Worcester for years and never having been to Mezcal, I spotted a Groupon for their lunch taco buffet and hit it up with two colleagues. One is a native Mexican who’s been there many times– he gives the place only a 6 out of 10 for authenticity but an 8 out of 10 for overall quality. Not sure I’d go that high, but it’s lunch and a first visit, so there’s still some upside.Although the restaurant offers full table service for drinks and non-buffet dining, the taco buffet is handled exactly like a Chipotle. You wait in line, and when it’s your turn you tell the taquero how many tacos you want (3 maximum per trip, but you can go back as much as you want for $10.99). Then what housing you want (soft corn, hard corn, soft flour, taco bowl), what fillings (beef, chicken, pork, black bean veggie), and what toppings and sauces. You can also get salad, rice and sauces on the side. They don’t fool around when it comes to filling these tacos; each was was stuffed to near capacity with a baseball-sized portion of meat. The beef was finely ground, like a chili, and had a strong, seasoned taste. The chicken had that stringy pulled chicken quality but with a lot more moisture. The pork I didn’t notice that much under the toppings (I chose lettuce, tomato and a different salsa on each).Toppings get handled with equal generosity, which is great in theory but leads to a dangerously messy/drippy taco. If this were a first date and not a work lunch, I doubt I’d ever get a second date. But Mezcal will get a second date for sure. pigtrip.net
