This is the best Korean food in Ann Arbor, a town already packed with Koreans and Korean restaurants. The family that runs the place is attentive and puts forth a good effort to make your meal enjoyable. One way in which this place stands out is that you get 6 side dishes (known as Banchan) instead of the basic two or three that other Ann Arbor restaurants try and get away with. I’ve had several dishes, and all were excellent. Try the spicy pork bulgogi. It comes out sizzling on a hot plate with a side of purple rice. Other favorites include the spicy squid, the soon tofu soup, and the stone bowl bi bim bap. One touch I appreciate is a free refill on my canned soda. Usually places like to use the no-fountain-soda trick to pad the bill. Not here, thank you. Today’s meal consisted of the spicy pork bulgogi, mandoo (fried dumplings), the complimentary side dishes, and a soda. The tab came to $23.16. Not a cheap meal, but the value is there. If I had anything critical to say, it would be that they don’t offer to replenish those side dishes like they should. I’m sure they would gladly oblige if I asked, but I feel uncomfortable doing that with a free item. The other thing is very minor. For the price of $5.95, I’d expect the dumplings to be a homemade dish, rather than a frozen product. That being said, outside of a big city, you won’t find homemade dumplings. For a frozen-factory made dumpling, BeWon’s are at least of a higher grade than most. In summary, I would give this place high marks and a hearty recommendation.

Bewon is the only Korean restaurant I’ve liked in Ann Arbor. Their dishes are fantastic and service is fast and polite. I really felt like I was being served an edible presentation of Korean cuisine instead of just ordering at a restaurant.
