Jamaican Jerk Pit is one of the few restaurants in Ann Arbor that actually serves tasty food. Ive come on a few occasions, sometimes for snacks and other times for meals. Their veggie patties are pretty decent, and their coco bread is good. I ordered their vegetarian platter one time, and unfortunately it was rather disappointing. I wanted the callaloo platter, however there was no callaloo in sight. Rather, I got a heaping amount of rice, sauted vegetables (they were okay), and fried plantains (the best tasting dish on the plate). For $10, it was definitely not worth it. However, Ive come with friends who have ordered the jerk chicken sandwich and loved it. That is the redeeming quality of this restaurant. For chicken, its well worth the wait (as the food is cooked to order, which can make for long waits).
Super great, friendly staff. Got the jerk tofu and the curry veggies. Delicious!! We are sold! Wish we’d had room for the coconut cake but that’ll be something to look forward to the next time we visit.
Also let me add that despite the tasty jerk chicken, it tasted baked and not grilled and was slightly undercooked.14 Sep, 2013This place isn’t bad, in fact the main dishes here, jerk chicken and pirk, are tasty, but everything else on the menu here is so bland. Word of advice: if you’re going to have very limited sides, the sides need to be really good. They serve the most bland beans and rice I ever had. Also jerk sandwiches should not be served with mayo and or ketchup. Come on.
This place has great food at great prices. I had the jerk chicken sandwich and it was amazing. I got it mild so next time I’ll be brave a try spicy. It’s also worth noting that the atmosphere is casual and comfortable and the waitstaff is very friendly. I’ll definitely be back!
Bravo!. The Jerk Pork Sandwich is AWESOME! We are talking the kind of food you will crave. I first had this years ago at Irie and have been coming back ever since. This is how food should be. It is so simple yet complex, blending the perfect seasoning with an ample portion of melt in your mouth pork. I’ll be back.
