I came here with my boyfriend for Ann Arbor Restaurant Week. Although we knew that it was a promotion , we expected something else for a $28 dinner for two. The food was good, very average and the portions were Ok, so I guess that pays the 3 course dinner for share… I ‘m a huge Mediterranean food fan and I know that you can find a better place.Anyway, the experience in general was OK.
I’ve been mulling this review for a while. If you’re interested in the long and short of it, the food & ambiance are excellent. Although I’m not much for cocktails, I’m sure they’re good too :).That being said, the *experience* deserves further explanation.A hallmark of American culture is the promise of accessibility. Regardless of who you are, you can partake in the good that life has to offer. Mezzovino, in my mind, is an embodiment of this ideal. The food is definitely fine dining, amply reflected in the unique preparations that take their queue from traditional mediterranean fare, but enhance them with locally sourced ingredients and a certain artistic license. However, unlike many such restaurants, there is no pretension to be had here. The intimidation that accompanies many upscale restaurants is simply absent, replaced by a welcoming decor and genuinely friendly staff. During this visit, Noah not only made me feel comfortable, but seemed very knowledgeable about the menu and was open to answering questions and providing suggestions. Also -unlike many places- he actually engaged in a conversation! The ambient music features uptempo instrumentals that let you maintain a conversation or let you say nothing at all without getting awkward (say, on a first date 🙂 ). My only minor quibble for all the good is the eggplant chips. They are oily, so pace yourself! All in all, this is the place to go if you want to impress without the ego…or just want to go somewhere nice.P.S. The fresh baked bread rolls are awesome!
Very nice restraint with good food. The fried chick peas are great as well as the lambI would rate it higher save for the overly creative process of ordering and eatingThe menus are on a iPad so you need to scroll through all ton of pages to get a feel for what they have. Also everything is on all plates which is great. But the service is slow so you run out of Table real estate with a ton of small plates Lying aboutLike with a lot of things these guys are trying s bit too hard to be cool. If they simplified things a bit and let the good work for them they would make more money
