GREAT FOOD BAD SERVICE. Great food but terrible service. The girl who served us, ABBY, was absolutely dreadful and a clear racist. Was being very nice and chatty to every one else in the restaurant but for some reason just hated me and my wife. She made it very obvious that she did not like us. No greeting, no courtesy, no smile, no checking on us and no recommendations. My lemonade tasted like plain water and when I told her, she bought us a bunch of sugar sachets and left. My wife and I were having a great night but tis girl spoiled it for us. I will go again cuz the food was yummy but hopefully we get better service.
Get the Extra Hot Salsa. Tio’s does one thing better than just about anyone — its extra-hot salsa. It’s an utterly unique preparation that is not merely hot. It combines heat with a citrusy flavor that makes the other flavors in a dish jump out at you. I won’t disagree with the reviewers who say that Tio’s food tends to be bland. That can be true (although it’s less true now after menu changes than it used to be). But if you can tolerate the heat of the extra-hot salsa, everything tastes more vibrant and complex. I’m not kidding. This stuff makes that much of a difference. If you can’t tolerate heat, maybe you should try Sabor Latino or Chela’s, which are both outstanding. But if you can, try Tio’s and ask for as much extra hot salsa as you can take.
I never understood why this place is so popular (especially among students). The most bland food I’ve ever had. I hate Taco Bell, but even their food has a taste.

I love the fish tacos! Tio’s uses the freshest ingredients. The gazpacho is as good as a four star restaurant. Courtney and Sean have been my servers and they really take good care of their customers:)
The Biggest Nacho’s Ever!!!. Ok – let me preface this – we ate here because we had seen this item on the show Man VS. Food. We wanted to attack 5lb’s of Nachos between three of us. It took us 45 minutes to eat 2/3rd of it, and by then we were sick of nachos. It was quite good – fresh chips. The top party of the Mountain was really good – there was guacamole, Queso and Sour Cream….once we got below that layer it got a bit too much. If you do this – trust me – do this with friends. Ask for only the Chicken and not the beef or the pork (it usually has all three) as the meat. Its a bit of fun, very filling, but I wouldn’t rush to do this again.
Not Mexican Food. The food at Tio’s is a Michigan perversion of Mexican food. Being from California I take my Mexican food seriously, not like a U of M frat boy looking to fill my stomach after a drunken night. If you are from California you will be greatly disappointed that they even consider themselves Mexican food as it is clearly Midwest American Food trying to disguise itself as Mexican.
