Okonomiyaki. I had okonomiyaki in Japan and have been craving it ever since. This dish isn’t the most widely known next to Ramen or Pho but delicious nonetheless. For those who never had it, it is a savory grilled Japanese pancake made of eggs, meat/seafood and cabbage. I thoroughly enjoyed the one here, as it came out fresh and delicious. The only difference was the ones I had in Japan and Korea had an ever so slight sweetness to them that seemed to bring your tastebuds full circle. The Pho Deluxe broth was heavily accented with garlic and different than what I was used to but was delicious with tender meat (but flavorless meatballs). The only disappointment with the pho was that, not only did the dish come with a tiny side of thai basil and mint leaves but they were shriveled the point they could have passed for dried herbs. I hope this doesn’t happen to anyone else. FYI: If you had famous pork belly buns at Momofuku in New York and are looking to rekindle that joyous taste with the pork buns here…you may be disappointed. However, the buns here are delicious but remember..different place…different buns.

Eclectic downtown Noodle , Pho, Curry and lots more. I chose a scallion seafood pancake to start.it was more than enough to share and delicious. Just right texture with no overpowering flavors. Nicely cooked and delicate. My pho deluxe was excellent. Good flavor in the broth, crispy pork belly was crisp and yummy! Lean beef steak very tender. The noodles are some of the best I have experienced. Wishing my pho friend Chad was here to enjoy. It’s rare to get the excellent experience under one roof but they do it here. Service was attentive and friendly.12 Sep, 2013Please be advised the review I posted was for a different restaurant- I apologize!!! Tomukun is great and I will add correct review.12 Sep, 2013Went in for sushi and I asked if they have soy paper as substitute for seaweed paper. Hostess asked if it was to go order and I said no. She then said they did not carry soy paper. She was not very friendly and offered no apology. I left wondering why she even asked if order was going to be to go.i do feel in this day and time its unusual not to carry soy paper as an alternative. I was disappointed.

Pleasantly surprised! Our apps were fantastic. Pho was also wonderful. Good atmosphere, drinks, fast service. Can’t wait to return! What a find!

Great pho!!! Excellent spring rolls!! Finally a place with good, fresh Vietnamese food in Ann Arbor. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

Try the curry stew!. This is great, authentic food at a reasonable price, especially for Ann Arbor. Everything I’ve tried was splendid but my favorite is the curry stew topped with a couple tempura shrimp. Just like mom used to make!

Great pork buns! This place is like the Midwest version of momofuku. Even the interior atmosphere is like a copy version of momofuku except it’s with darker wood. Other than the pork buns, the rest of what we tried was just ok. The seafood pancake was lacking texture – it would have been much better with a mix of shrimp and squid. The buttery corn crispy chicken ramen was actually awful. The chicken was like sweet and sour chicken, but without the sauce and without and flavors. I’ve heard the duck ramen is really good, so is the curry katsu. So I think I’ll go for those entrees next time.

Finally. I was born and raised in Ann Arbor. And as much as I love this city, one of the things I always thought A2 lacked was an outstanding Asian restaurant. Yes, there are some good places but nothing really stood out. Then I discovered Tomukun. While the the menu isn’t the biggest, it seems like the owner decided to focus on doing a few things really, really well. And it works. What I really appreciate about this place is that it isn’t dumbed down, Rachel Ray friendly Asian cuisine. I wouldn’t call this place cheap, but it’s not expensive either. The kind of place you might eat at twice a month. Obviously the chef is very talented and I hope he expands the menu a little more.
