I have eaten her many times and always have a good experience. It is not a place I would come to if I wasn’t staying at the hotel but it has always been fine. The service has always been great and I always recommend coworkers try it out when staying here.
The food has been wonderful every time I have been to the Riverfront Grille. They have the best Rueben I have ever had! Our family has made it a tradition to go to the Doubletree for their Easter buffet, and it never disappoints. The new Executive Chef and new Sous Chef have really done some amazing new things with the menus and quality of food. Maybe the people who were disappointed should try it again, I haven’t had a bad experience yet.
Ok food, had the scallop appetizer, well cooked large scallops ( so many places over cook scallops) that were properly cooked. Also had the ribeye (rare) again properly cooked but the cut was not impressive. No problem with the chef and the service was excellent. Great view too. There were not a lot of choices in Bay City so I decided to eat at my hotel which I almost never do. I would eat here again, moe for the service, crafted beer and properly cooked food than any Wow factor. I would normally say a 2.5 out of 5 but the service makes it a 3 out of 5…
Utterly Unimpressed. Recently I visited the Riverfront Grille in hopes of a nicer meal to treat a friend in from Manhattan. I recently moved back to Bay City after having lived outside Washington D.C. for seven years. Almost all of the menu, with the exception of a few dishes, had the allure of a rather sophisticated palette. We ordered the Lobster Mac and cheese and the filet mignon and received our side salads to start the meal. It was quite apparent that the side salads came from a bag of spring mix lettuce, but the unnerving aspect was not the cheapened obvious nature of the salad, it was the rotted lettuce pieces throughout the plate. After putting these aside without eating them, we were served our meal. It was immediately obvious that the Lobster Mac and Cheese was not made that day but reheated. It was put on top of an oversized plate with a collection of vegetables that were overcooked to the point of being inedible. The cauliflower even had the beginnings of mold spores. The lobster claws were of a rubber texture that was not indictive of the luciousness that was anticipated. In the mac and cheese, a quarter of a red pepper took up space in the dish, but even that embarassing oversight could not escape the fact that there was absolutely no seasoning whatsoever. I looked over at my friend’s filet, and there was a garnish atop the steak. It was the top of green onions flayed out. This was arguably the most useless garnish ever seen. The vegetables on his plate were just as bad as they had been on my plate. When the manager came over we explained our reactions to the meal, and what she suggested was a testament to how much she did not know about any culinary aspects. Her response to the cauliflower mold spores was that they were not mold spores but that look occurred during the saute process. Needless to say we were utterly unimpressed with this restaurant, and when we walked out, we saw it was named one of the best in Bay City. Perhaps Bay City needs a new food critic with an actual working knowledge base of food.
