A favorite, a Detroit classic. Grade: B+I love getting together with friends and loved ones here. This icon has a consistent quality that doesnt waiver. Their fried chicken is legendary, and I wish I could convince myself to order something other than the fried pickerel but I cant. With a nice view of the Detroit River that has been shared by patrons for decades, Im always happy coming to Sindbads.19 Jul, 2012Excellent Food in a Classic Detroit Waterfront Restaurant. Grade: A-/B+Sinbads has been a delightful mainstay on the Detroit River since 1949. With a marina and boatwells, it has appealed to boaters and, with good food, has lured everyone else. The dining room is pleasant and relaxed, with red brick and mahogany housing nautical and Detroit-oriented decor. At its end, a view of the marina and the river enhance the ambience. The menu includes an array of steaks and seafood, and our group of five enjoyed everything we had, including cod filets and a longtime standard at Sinbads, frog legs. And for a restaurant in the heart of the midwest, their chowder is very respectable.A star among their offerings is Sinbads fried chicken, which my wife has adored for years. From a small taste, I know why. Crisp, perfectly seasoned, and tender, it surpasses some I’ve had in the south.Among the fish are some lake classics like perch and pickerel. The latter called my name and it didn’t disappoint, a generous fried filet with tartar sauce was enough for me to suggest going back a second night.Sinbads has its own secure valet parking lot and, as do many other bars and restarants in town, offers shuttle bus service to Detroit Tigers and Detroit Lions games. After many years, it was heartwarming to go back to Sinbads. Next trip back, I will insist we go again.19 Jul, 2012Excellent Food in a Classic Detroit Waterfront Restaurant. Sinbads has been a delightful mainstay on the Detroit River since 1949. Great Food, Great Service!!!. I was in the area for a meeting today and since I had good things about Sinbad’s I wanted to stop in for lunch. What a great view, what a great location!!!! The food is fantastic, I order the lunch Campreche Shrimp with fries and it came with a Salad. The shrimp is lightly breaded and cooked to perfection. WOW!!!. The service was great and would recommend Sinbads to anyone
Nautical Nostalgia. Nothing beats going here by boat, but even in the dead of winter you can enjoy the favorites. Not gourmet, but good solid fare served by friendly waitstaff. Use mapquest if you’re not familiar with getting here by land, it’s a little tricky and the neighborhood is a bit sketchy.
Classic. This place is a seafood classic & they haven’t compromised at all with the quality of the food. I can really appreciate that. The service is always great when I go here & my family & I frequent here alot. The crab legs are really good too!
Nothing fancy. Just good!. I believe that there are just a few legenday restaurants left in business in Detroit: Dakota Inn, Roma Cafe, Under the Eagle, Mario’s…And I think Sindbad’s belongs in that select group. Nothing neauvelle, nouveau, new anything on this menu. Fish? Four or five always on the menu. Beef? Subs, sandwiches, on-the-bone. Poultry? Umm, not so much. What Sindbad’s does bring to the table, they do with a keen understanding of the patrons they attract. Nicely prepared foods in ample proportions, served with an endearing touch by waitresses who have been on staff for a long, long time.I’m very glad we re-discovered this gem on Detroit’s eastside. Sindbad’s will go into our regular rotation of dining spots.
Old Standard. I try to get to Sindbad’s at least once a year (I am 60), but usually twice or more. Comfortable environment, good but not great food at a reasonable price. If you are a Detroiter it is a comfort to know places like this still exist.Try it, you will not be disappointed.
Great service, even better food. In a scary neighborhood but the restaurant is vey safe and in a gated parking lot with mandatory valet parking. So safe enough to take even children. Boating here in the summer is the tops.
