Go for the beer, sit at the bar, skip the food. Service at table was lackluster, at bar appeared to be better. Gastropub? Seemed more like bar food, average at best, and nothing healthy. Award winning wings were good although portion seemed skimpy.

So so. On a snowy wednesday night so it wasn’t busy, service was fine. Good beer selection, the one I had was good. Cheese soup was excellent, I tried someone else’s chili, it was incredibly bland, no flavor, which for chili is way off the mark.I got the Uber Burger, the fries that came with it were good, the burger itself was pretty flavorless. Maybe it was the jalapenos doing something to my taste buds, but I doubt it. I like jalapenos, I regularly eat them on dishes, but I can still taste the dish. This was, in fact, the least flavorful burger I’ve probably ever eaten. The meat was so bland it has almost no flavor, at all. The completely lack of flavor is hard to describe really. If I were eating a shoe it would at least taste like a shoe, this had no taste. It could have been turkey, pork, ostrich, emu, dolphin, whale, alpaca, I don’t know, but it didn’t taste like beef. The assembly was also a failure, the bun (english muffin, described as x-large on the menu, but not that big) was a failure, or all the sauces and stuff they put on the burger was too thin and runny, because the bottom of my plate was basically a soup of liquid, many of the fries got soggy, and of course the bottom bun, which completely ruin it for its function. As far as burgers in EL go, I had one at Bagger Daves a few months ago, that was a pretty good burger. For this? I’ve had better at McDonalds. +1 for beer, +1 for cheese soup, -3 for bland chili, +1 for good fries, -1,457 for messing up a $17 burger.

This is THE place for beer aficionados in East Lansing. If you love beer go here. Prices are reasonable, but generally not college bar cheap, which is part of the appeal in general. Good service and good good as well.

Love this place! Great MI made beer, crack fries are the best and ask for the cheese sauce with them

Slow service, very slow in getting food out, even though it was a summer Saturday afternoon with a steady crowd but certainly not over-crowded. Too bad because the food was quite good. Looks like the append of service has been a problem ever since they opened.

Grand Royale. This is the pent ultimate sandwich. It is undoubtedly the best thing on a bun EVER. Cheesy, spicy, meaty, with Crack Fries and a pinch of Heaven. Eat this and you will be happy.

Bar Food and atmosphere. Place with typical bar food. Unfortunately, our food came out cold even though we were the first order of the day and the place only had two other people besides us. Hopcats is more about the nightlife. You mainly come here for the socialization and beer. The nightlife energy is great but the music can get loud to the point you can’t hear your dinner companions (at least it was on a Friday night when all the college kids were free). The food is decent. No need to run for the hills, but I personally was not a fan of their Olive Burger. While the brioche bun was buttery and soft, the meat was bland and the sauce was average. This is a Michigan special so there are way better options at other eateries. Here is the deal with the Crack Fries everyone talks about: They are shoestring fries tossed in a seasoning mainly composed of black pepper and salt. I think there was suppose to be some beer batter flavor to them but it’s not blatantly obvious. Maybe get them with beer batter cheese? If that sounds good to you, come on down.
