Not sushi. Pretty horrible. The american rolls are terrible, avoid at all costs. And the nigiri is not particularly impressive: it’s not packed particularly well, and it falls apart in my hand before I can dip the unseasoned fish into any sauce (this might not have much to do with the packing as the fact that the rice tastes plain and not like sushi rice). Ordering six pieces of chef’s choice nigiri, I’d expect at least one of them to be seasoned. It’s not like they were serving astonishingly fresh fish. You can tell that they are cheap and cut corners in every way possible. Other items like their ginger salads and miso soup are terrible (watered down sauce that leaves a puddle of ginger sick in the bottom of your bowl, and miso soup that tastes straight from a paper package).
One of the best sushi spots in east Lansing!! Nice environment as well.
Like it. Great sushi
You know that sushi you get at the supermarket? This is pretty much that sushi. The rolls are not very tasty, the rice is not right, and they pretty much cheap it out as much as possible.
My boyfriend and I had lunch here on a whim. We were the only guests there. Our server, Marie, was charming, friendly and explained the specials quickly aha succinctly. We had the avacado tempura appetizer which comes with a honey dipping sauce. The breading was crisp and the avacado was fresh. For lunch my boyfriend had the spicy tuna roll with large chunks of tuna, I had Tue shiitake roll which was delightful. These three items cost $21.04. Considering the service, price, and overall quality, we will be back.
Best roles in East Lansing. As an MSU student, I’ve eaten at nearly every sushi restaurant that’s appeared in East Lansing for the past four years. The waitstaff is not the most knowledgable, but they’re friendly and are quick to return with an answer to your question. Sushi Ya has a lot of creative and flavorful rolls, blending Japanese and American cuisine. The portions are large and I’ve loved every roll I’ve ever had there. I can’t say the same for other sushi restaurants.
