Still looking….. After moving to the Lansing area from metro Detroit, I was desperate to find good middle eastern food. On my one and only visit to Woody’s, I ordered shish tawook (chicken kabobs) and they were dried out, tasteless shoe leather. The rice was not warm and tasted like it had been sitting around for days. Needless to say, I am still searching for good middle eastern/Lebanese food in the Lansing area.
Old Standby. I have been here probably 100 times and had almost everything on their menu. Woody’s definitely has their good days and their bad ones, just like anyone. Catch em on a good day and their food is amazing, fresh, hits the spot, fantastic! Other times, you can tell their salads have been sitting in the fridge a little too long. I sometimes am the recipient of very mushy tomatoes and wilted lettuce. But it’s ok, Woody’s, I forgive you. They have great beer on tap and their cocktails are always good. I personally think their burgers are some of the best in town. Their fries are always made to perfection, especially the sweet potato ones. My grandma was Armenian so I grew up on this kind of food. I love their kabobs (though they are occasionally dry) and I love their rice. My grandma made better grape leaves though. If you get their garlic sauce on anything – watch out! That garlic will stay with you all day. I love their veggie cheese pies, those are awesome. Very filling. I’m a big fan of their kibbee, both the meat and the veggie. The lubia with smeed is a great combo! Highly recommended. Sometimes the service is horribly slow. When I was pregnant, I went there for a quick bite and I waited almost 45 minutes for a burger. I actually started crying because I was so hungry by that point, it was very embarrassing. 🙁 The servers are always friendly, though. It seems they hire good people. I like the atmosphere there in the day, it’s nice and laid back. Once it gets late, things get louder. I am not a fan of their chairs. They are too big for the small tables. It’s not very comfortable because you kind of hang over the edge of the table. All in all, I like Woody’s. It’s my favorite place to go relax after work and have a drink.
