Flint Style. About three years ago I found out that the Coney Island’s in Flint have a different style sauce than the Detroit Coney’s. I haven’t had any reason to go to Flint to try it out but I’ve been intrigued. I was fighting traffic back from northern Michigan and decided to make an end run on I-475. I realized it was my chance so I located Angelo’s and stopped for dinner. The neighborhood has seen better days, not unlike those in Detroit so it wasn’t that different. The restaurant is a typical lunch counter and booths from the old days and a larger area (addition?) with tables. I sat at the counter and was greeted promptly. The waitress was efficient an friendly. I ordered two coneys, fries and a pop. The dogs came out fast with a promise that the fries would be right out. The chili sauce is a more of a topping than a sauce, nice coursly chopped onion and mustard were also on top of the Koegel natural casing dog. I was two or three bites into the first dog when the fries came out. I can’t say that I am a fan of the sauce. It was OK but not great. The dogs were perfect and the fries were beautiful golden brown and crispy. Definitely cooked to order. A customer ordered a shake and I watched the beautiful think shake being made. Looked amazing.Prices are reasonable to darn cheap!!! Breakfasts looked interesting too. (5 egg omelette special!!!)
