Just had the worst dining experience of our lives at Bombay Cuisine – Grand Rapids, MI. It pains me to write this because I am so in love with their food… I made a reservation 3 weeks ago and was told I had full flexibility with timing because they didn’t have other reservations at that point. My wife and i arrived SUPER excited for Indian food (fully aware of how busy Valentine’s Day is), about 5 minutes prior to our reservation time. The restaurant was packed, as expected. There was no hostess greeting guests, so a line began to form. Finally a very flustered girl ran up and asked who had arrived first. We stated that we had reservations, so she asked for our names. After stating our name multiple times, she looked at us like we were nuts and ran off to the computer. Eventually we got seated in the corner… at a filthy table. She sat us and then proceeded to wipe the sticky rice and small piles of korma into my lap. She left us with menus and said a waiter would be with us shortly. Two groups seated after us were helped before we were, and we remained ignored. Multiple waiters walked by without ever giving us a glance as they served tables next to us. After 30 minutes of patiently waiting and absolutely NO interaction with a waiter (even to take our drink order), we walked out. We noticed there were two tables with couples who were already seated before us also without any menus. We figured they would be helped before us, which means it would have taken upwards to an hour before we would even recieve drink orders, much less our entre order. By that time it would have been close to 8:30pm before we would eat with a 7pm reservation.Reservations mean absolutely nothing at this restaurant. I’m confused why they even take them. If it’s a first come first serve type of place you guys seriously need to tell your customers that over the phone so our night isint wasted. If I had a guest from out of town with me I would have been embarrassed. We also watched countless take out orders being fulfilled while a dining room full of people with reservations were ignored. With it being a holiday, we had no where else to easily go for our romantic meal together (hence, why we made a reservation). Pizza for Valentine’s Day dinner it is… Bombay – I love your food, but your customer service was immensely disappointing to me tonight. Some of the worst in Grand Rapids. You guys have amazing food with service worse than a buffet. That’s an inexcusable problem to have, you’re screwing over your amazing chefs. I was planning on being a customer for life but we will likely never return.
