Their pho tai is amazing. The broth is always on point and they don’t skimp on the noodles. The beignets are decent but it’s hard to compare when you’ve had Cafe DuMonde prior.
I’ve eaten here twice, ordering Pho Ga (chicken) both times, hoping to get a taste of what I remembered from Vietnam. The first time was disappointing. The soup had no flavor and the chicken was very tough. I could tell it had been thrown together because they ran out. It would have been better if they said they were out. The second meal was leaps and bounds better. I will definitely go again, just hoping they smooth out the quality. My friend who had cajun food was very happy both times.
A number of things didn’t go our way when visiting this place for the first time. As it is a new restaurant they were all pretty forgivable, and we are actually hard to disappoint. The waiter had no idea what was on the menu, they had no seafood at 6pm on a Thursday despite being incredibly empty, which is a pity because we really wanted to try their version of seafood gumbo. The menu is truly odd in that it has Vietnamese food OR Cajun. It is not fusion as one would expect, and the Cajun menu is very limited. What was unforgivable was that of the vegetables that accompanied our chicken platter, the tomato was rotten, very clearly and obviously. They seemed to be absolutely disinterred that this was the case. We were going to move on when we realized that the egg was raw. Not slightly undercooked but absolutely raw through the yolk and central albumen. We insisted that they redo it at that time. The platter came back with the egg heavily over fried on BOTH sides, NO vegetables, and the same piece of chicken, which I believe is the sign of bad food service to re-serve the same meal sent back. The chicken was nicely spiced and their pho broth is quite nice. The rest was fairly terrible. But if you literally can’t tell that something is either rotten, or raw, and you have zero interest in someone pointing those things out, you lose our votes, and patronage.
