I have been a customer at Tamaki since it opened. Initially I loved the place, often eating there several times a weeks. I love the concept, and the food used to be very good, along with a reasonable price. The Frandor location went completely downhill when the new manager took over. While I understand and expect prices to go up over time, I do not expect food quality and quantity to go down. And at the Frandor location, both quality and quantity as well as customer service have taken a downward spiral. I have seen the current manager rude to his staff and rude to customers. With a few exceptions, many of the staff are less than friendly as well. I probably would overlook the customer service if the food was still good. I went in for an avocado roll and a custom rollThis week. The manager and staff member were both at the counter and no one else was in the restaurant. Neither person acknowledge my presence until I said something after waiting at the counter. And avocado roll at taMaki used to be 2 to 4 wedges of avocado so you could actually taste it. This week it was two super thin slices that broke when the staff picked them up because they were so thin. I asked if they were going to put more on. For an additional fee I was told. I understand cost control but this was unacceptable. It’s an avocado roll not a rice roll. At another visit a staff was putting two very thin pieces of salmon on my roll. One was so thin that it couldn’t even be considered a slice. So the staff put another thin slice on without me saying anything . The manager yelled at him to take it off. I wish the old manager was still there and the quality that used to come with it. The grand River store seems to be the same quality as the original Frandor location. I wish that one was closer so I could eat there frequently.

Americanized but very good – wraps & dumplings very tasty.

Im so glad that the tamaki On grand river opened because it’s so much closer to me. It’s awesome. They really know what they’re doing. They have awesome staff and a great vibe. I will be here frequently because the rolIs are so professional. I knows it’s not all about presentation, but the presentation is so flawless. I prefer the grand river one over the frandor one because the rolls are so much tighter. They’re not loose. Anyways, they’re great and I will definitely be back.

A new location in East Lansing just opened. They have all the same stuff plus they have custom Pho! I have had the Pho and a couple custom sushi rolls so far. Everything was delicious and the staff offered great suggestions for what I should put in my rolls. The general manager has been there every time I have gone and remembers me when I come in now! Really good place to get yummy fast sushi!

Good idea, poor execution. The sushi tasted fine, but the custom rolls are much more expensive than the standard tuna and spicy salmon. Also, the door to their walk in fridge, where they kept the raw fish, didn’t close well and would stay open a bit each time it was opened. For a place that serves mostly raw fish, that’s asking for trouble.

Fast, Fresh, Cheap and you can keep it healthy!. What a great idea, this is like the subway sandwich style of a sushi and korean bbq wraps.Pick from the menu or go ala carte and add anything you want to it.I had a couple groupons which we used and have been going back when I’m in the area, its def nice to see something like this pop up in the area.Give it a try if your in the Frandor area.

Tired this place because my bf had a groupon. Wasn’t sure about it at first but once I took a min to look over how the ordering works it was very easy. I loved my rolls and have been back twice since. Why go anywhere else when you can get a roll made just with what you like for the same price as other sushi places? Love it 🙂
