The worst experience I’ve ever had. Attended a family graduation party at Bert’s in May 2014. What grave error of judgement. I was the only white person in a party of 40 -50 people and was the only person subject to terrible treatment. These people need diversity training, customer service training and basic communication skills training. The food was two hours late but that didn’t bother me since I was – by then – long gone. I will not divulge details of the incident as I may yet litigate. To add insult to injury none of my nine letters illicited a response from any of the establishment’s officials. I did receive a brief letter from a spouse of one of the owners, full of excuses and misinformation but not a word of apology from the owners and/or managers. The incident was distressing and very unpleasant. That establishments continue to operate despite having staff with no clue about customer care,or even a fundamental modicom of basic good manners, beats me. Has Detroit lost its way when it comes to demanding high standards of service and respect? If Bert’s customers find rudeness and total disrespect acceptable then God help Detroit. I for one will never step foot in there again. Indeed, I’m questioning my ongoing presence in Metro-Detroit, Michigan and the USA. If you want to avoid abuse, racial, sexual and age discrimination you’ll give this horrible bar a wide berth.
Great music, food, and prices!. Went to the Wednesday night Jazz show because it was listed on http://www.detroitbluessociety.org/Events/Jams/Jams.html. Great show! Nice place too. Some veteran musicians playing smooth jazz classics all night. The show started promptly at 8 which is great for the dinner crowd (me). Food was good too and was bargain priced. I had the tilapia-special; grilled. It was very nice fish, cooked and seasoned just right, and was a generous portion. Great sides too. Berts website http://www.bertsentertainment.com is in Chinese, so dont bother with that. The entrance is also somewhat hard to find. I never did find a sign saying Berts (in the dark), but from all the cars parked outside, I figured something good must be in there. Definitely going back again.
OMFG that BBQ sauce is to die for and the BBQ master, Tony, is a great guy and talented chef!
Party is on at Bert’s. On Saturday in Detroit’s Eastern Market the mega grills are out front cooking ribs, chicken and sausages along with drinks on the side walk and singers belting out super Motown tunes for all to enjoy. Inside a delightful southern buffet with mean greens and beans. The place is always hoppin and they have great jazz concert many times during the year. albeerpoe.blogspot.com
