This is a professional, restaurant style fare common at (French for example) home dinners (or breakfasts, brunches or nightcaps). The chef is right on, the staff is among the best trained, well informed, in Detroit. And the joint is PURE DETROIT – great location, cool space, next to top sports and entertainment venues and great, interesting food. I say, GO to Republic Grill before a ball game at Comerica Park or Ford field; before Wings hockey or Pistons basketball (or other events like Cirque) at Little Caesars Arena; before a play or musical at the Fisher Theater or Opera House; before a performance at Symphony Hall or the MAX — get the point??? Just go – an ENJOY!
I have to admit the night started off where a low rating would have been justified. We called weeks in advance to ensure a nice table to celebrate our friend’s birthday. When we arrived the table was available but less than adequate. High top for 8 by the front door. We did not let this impact our evening and given our groups size we were subject to the chief’s plate selection off the menu. This was a great option for our group but the velocity of the food coming out could not let us enjoy each course adequately. We had asked after the 3rd dish came out to slow down the dish delivery. We were not in a rush and wanted to enjoy our evening. This lead to a not so nice altercation with an individual in our party and the waiter – after he requested the food be returned to the kitchen. But our night changed – surprisingly in a GREAT way – Sylvia jumped in to serve our table – she took control – acknowledged the not so nice events of the evening and turned everything around. Sylvia gets 5 gold stars for making our experience memorable.
Ate here after leaving Antietam due to terrible service, and not being able to be seated for 40 minutes despite having a reservation. The service at Republic was great! It was a breath of fresh air – night and dayThis place is really fun! The food is great, and the service is A++++++++
Best overall meal experience I’ve had in Michigan. Went with another foodie couple and ordered a pretty good sampling of the dinner, dessert, and cocktail menus. Everything was spot on – creative, delicious, and beautiful presentation. Duck pastrami, tallow fries, while roasted trout, roasted carrots, and duck confit were spectacular. Not normally one who races about desserts, but the mashed potato dumplings (crazy, right? Crazy delicious.) and brown bread ice cream were ridiculously good. We were tipped off that you need to request a slow pace to keep everything from coming at once, so we ordered things one at a time – staff was accommodating, and we had a great time. We will be back as often as we can to see what Kate comes up with next. You should too.
Great atmosphere, service and food! The whole roasted trout was outstanding. Will definitely return.
