Average food at best. Heavy cheese laden Italian with no subtlety. Fun for the location but not the food.

Everything fine but the food. November 3 – Saturday night my wife & I and two close friends decided the time was right to get reacquainted with Roma Cafe. After a brief wait for a table we were seated. The service was fine, but the food was a disappointment. I had paglia and fieno – shoe string noodles, prosciutto and peas. My meal would have been fine, but it was swimming in cream sauce. I expected some sauce, but it was almost soupy. My wife’s noodles w/meat sauce and mushrooms featured mushrooms from a can, not fresh mushrooms. Our friends’ meals were also subpar. The Cafe was bustling – all tables were in use, and people were waiting as we left. As I mentioned earlier the service was fine, but the food did not provide the value for the prices charged. We won’t be going back.

I had high hopes for Roma’s since I’ve been hearing about it for years now by my grandmother .. So I decided to take her one day.. First there’s valet.. Yes valet.. I’m the ONLY person that drives my car so that bugged me.. Not really a problem tho.. We opted for the Monday buffet.. What a joke.. Everything tastes like its been frozen for weeks then reheated.. Staff was awesome though. But staff alone will now warrent another visit from me.

Excellent Service, Traditions, Old School. Self proclaimed oldest restaurant in Detroit – should be good – right? Service was fantastic, waiters dressed in tuxedos. Bread on the table, minestrone comes with every meal. Whitefish in lemon butter was tasteless, but fresh. The Fettuccine Alfredo with shrimp came with overcooked shrimp in a tasteless white sauce. Where is the parmesean? What about the garlic flavors? The tiramisu was OK.Why was the food so bland?

One of my favorite restaurant I’ve been coming here since I was little the food, atmosphere, and service are a perfect combination it’s like stepping back in time. I don’t want to hear that the inside is out dated it’s the oldest restraint in the D they should keep it that way.
