Just ate there for breakfast. The food was very good and the service was too. I has the table side omelette and it was tasty. They brought small dishes of all the possible items to be included to choose from to the table (veggies, meat, cheese, seafood). The cook did a great job. A family member had the cinnamon roll French toast which looked amazing and was apparently delicious. Another person had the eggs with chives which were apparently also very good. I ordered the orange juice which was pricy but fresh squeezed, so not surprising. We ordered the bananas and whipped cream for a young child. There was lots of whipped cream, but I’m not sure there was even a whole banana… I realized we never received any fresh baked goods/bread which was listed on the menu, but we were all full by that time so we didn’t ask. The overall amibance was great. I would definitely consider going back.
Top Notch. I enjoyed the ambiance of this place. I always wanted to go to the Whitney but never made the time to do so. Q was our waiter and he was excellent! Really personable and kind person. He even took us for a brief tour. I did Restaurant Week. I had the Duck Taco Appetizer and the Trout over Pasta. The Trout was excellent but the pasta was not so good. I also tasted my dates Chicken. It was just ok. We went to the Ghost bar afterwards. Once again, this place is beautiful and I would recommend it just for the environment and the great staff.
Had lunch reservations there yesterday. The place needs to be cleaned up! My husband was given a broken chair to sit in; we asked for another–it was even worse. Same went for guests sitting next to us.Filthy chairs, dust laden, bookshelves collapsed, unbelievable in the daylight. Salad yummie; carrot cake nasty; coffee intolerable. What happened to the Whitney??!!
Stopped in for desserts and after dinner drinks in the 3rd floor bar. Got a great little table in the main area but had a spotlight shining in my eyes the entire time. Got used to it but wished it was dimmer. Spent $100 on 4 desserts and 5 drinks. Although they were out of one of there signature desserts (the chocolate one-can’t remember the name) I’ll give them kudos for accommodating my request for something chocolate. They put together a cake and ice cream sandwich but the cake desperately needed the cream because it was so dry. The warm Apple Crustada would have benefitted from a little longer baking time as it wasn’t golden brown and was a little doughy. Both the Carrot Cake and the Creme Brle were excellent. Service was great although not speedy. Our server, Phillip, was so very nice and patient with our requests. The music was fine but would have preferred just the piano player and skipped the sax player. Don’t get me wrong, they were fine but the sax was,at times, a little overbearing. Of course ambiance is what this place is known for and it is beautiful. Too bad none of the fireplaces work….that would be outstanding.
Oh My Goodness!. If you love over priced, ridiculously horrible food….you’re in for a treat!!! Kiddie brunch at the Holiday Inn blows away the Whitney in every category. Where shall I begin? Pancakes: hardened and stale with a cracker-like crunch in your mouth. Fresh fruit selection: I could do better at a public school lunch room. Salmon: dry….it probably had some hope if it wasn’t kept in a 400 degree warmer for a couple hours. Hats off to the owners. I think I heard them giggling from the money room upstairs.
Overrated. Venue is cool. Seems like they’re trying to be something they’re not-a GOOD upscale restaurant. Everything else is there – the ambiance, the service…but when it comes down to it and you are actually eating the food, you may ask yourself why you just spent 40 dollars on a dish that tastes under 20. Maybe they need someone new in the kitchen. Not impressed
Every time we go-amazing food, spectacular service!! Can’t wait to return. Love the Chateau Chantal Chardonnay with dinner. Seriously such a classic place to have lunch/dinner/drinks! Definitely a fun Detroit venue.
