Good food cold woman. I being raised by a wonderful single Korean mother and growing up half Korean has grown very accustomed to the cuisine. Since moving I have been trying to find flavors most closely associated with my moms. I was happy to go to three times and found that I love the kimchee and the kimchi che gae the most. My boyfriend is a fan of the bulgolgi. However decent the service was at first ( the woman was slightly offstandish ) I didn’t mind. the location and the sweet older man and good food was enough to bring me back. However that all changed when I my mother and brother come visit. I was suggesting a great lil korean small style resturaunt to order from that I thought that they would enjoy. So that being said we went to three times cafe. I was so shocked at the cold manner and attitude that was displayed to my mother. The horrible woman was so rude she didn’t even speak her native language with my sweet unpretentious mother. I was HORRIFIED at the woman’s attitude it seriously made me re evaluate everything I thought about these people. Needless to say even though the man is very nice the wretched woman is enough to cold-stare anyone away for a LOOOng time.
It’s true, that the prices are on the high side. This aside, I always do enjoy the spicy pork bulgogi very much. There are never many people there, and that is why I always thought that they were not very happy people (the owners). The thing that bothers me most I would have to say, is that there are no fountain drinks and you have to pay for every can of soda. That means there are no refills. The other is that there is a very prominently displayed tip jar when you pay. First it is improper etiquette to ask for tips, and it is also improper to ask for tips when you’re the owner of an establishment. One never tips the owner of an establishment. Besides, there are no servers. All you get is the wife of the owner who brings you the food out from the kitchen. No one ever asks how everything tastes. I would suggest you try it for yourself and see if the food is tasty enough for you to go again. I do find myself going every now and then.
The best gamjatang I’ve ever eaten.. I moved away from the East Lansing area three years ago. I have tried gamjatang at several restaurants since, and none compare to Three Times Cafe. I still crave it.
Excellent korean food. About $10 an entree but very authentic and delicious
Decent…. $10 up meals. Fairly small portions. Food could use more flavor (flavors were bland), but it was fresh and hot. Food quality was good. Ordered: kalbi, samgyupsal, and seafood soup. We got 3 small plates of side dishes (kimchi, greens, anchovies) to be shared amongst us three. They could do have been nice and done 3/person instead of skimping out on side dishes because if it was just one person, or if we had ordered and sat separately (one at each table) then we would have gotten our own set of 3 side dishes per person instead of having to share it. Arent side dishes complimentary per each meal ordered..? not going back to that restaurant though. Service was ok. The lady has a naturally cold attitude, and grim look on her face, but polite.
Good food. It’s quick, easy and good food. The next best Korean restaurant I’ve found is Korea House in EL but for it being that much closer I’m in.
Good Korean, but very little on the menu is under $10 and portions are fairly small, especially given the price. Still, it IS tasty.
