My husband and I had dinner at the Boathouse tonight. I had the morel and chanterelle bisque- soooo tasty (if you like mushrooms). My husband’s lobster bisque as also very good. For entrees he had a Manhattan strip steak and I had elk. Both were fantastic, though I would get the steak next time (matter of preference). The service was fast and friendly. My water was never less than half full. The prices were definitely on the high side. We had a half off deal we purchased online which helped take the edge off. I would definitely come back, but either with another coupon or for a special occasion, as our bill would have been $147 before tip. That being said, you definitely get what you pay for, and this was a quality meal.

My wife and I celebrated our wedding anniversary at the Boathouse, which we feel says a great deal about this incredible restaurant. First, this is just the place to toast one’s milestones: we sipped champagne in front of huge windows that gave us both a sunset over West Bay, but also competing fireworks from two houses on the Fourth of July. Second, given our income, this is not a weekly–or even monthly–evening out: the menu is very expensive but, in several cases, well worth it. The Boathouse is the only place I have found in our resort community that serves genuine foie gras, a particular delight. It is also famous for its Kobe beef, and for seasonal, farm-to-table ingredients. It is difficult to shake the sense that such wonders are overpriced, especially given the many fine restaurants in our area. Third, we are used to exceptional service at the Boathouse; however, on this occasion, we both felt our waiter was put out by our comments and inquiries and rushed us out the door so he could get on with his evening. He was not a teenager, mind you, but seemed to be a seasoned member of the wait staff. In short, be mindful of the service when you tip, as always: sadly, we have had a better reception and pampering at the Boathouse in years past.
